Ghost People=Lobotomites in Hazmat Suit's?

Post » Sun Jul 03, 2011 7:05 am

Ok so I have noticed an odd pattern after playing Dead Money for a 100th time and now hearing of lobotomites its beginning to chew my brain a bit so here goes. Does anyone else think that Ghost People could be the construction workers that built the villa but became sick with the cloud on purpose by planning from Sinclair and then lobotomized into worshiping Vera and killing all intruder's? Elijah, and Dean both say that the Ghost People have a reverence for the Holograms that roam the villa but it is never made clear why. In Christine's good ending she stays in the Villa and the Ghost People think of her as just another hologram, could it possibly be due to Sinclair programming the Ghost People Lobotomites to worship and protect Vera Keys who Christine's new face once belonged to?

Also did anyone else see Sinclair intended for Vera to die inside the Vault rather than Dean and had a change of heart and also died inside the vault?

Christine got a new voice, not a new face. :3

That is an interesting connection, I guess that's why they don't attack the holograms. But maybe if they are the construction workers, the holograms don't attack them because it can read them some how. Since the holograms don't attack them, they don't attack the holograms. This also explains why the Ghost People attack all intruders. The ghost people eat the people who wander the villa, since holograms are not people they have not reason to even pay them any mind. However, I do not understand why they revere Christine as a hologram. Perhaps her voice does play a role in this.

But Ghost People are proven to be the villa's construction crew forever trapped in their Hazmat suits. Maybe they are a strange form of ghoul since they have lived this long.

Very creative theory, but Sinclair was a man with very good intentions for the most part. Dean's only reason for trying to take the Sierra Madre's treasure and Vera from Sinclair is that Sinclair was so happy and tried to look to the bright side of things. A man like that would not make use of lobotomites, IMO. Sinclair reprogrammed the Sierra Madre to become a death trap after he learned of Vera and Dean's betrayal, but he tried the best he could to help Vera because Sinclair had a change of heart. Also Christine doesn't have a new face, just a new voice.

You didn't find the note next to his skeletal corpse in the Sierra Madre Casino Vault next to the Nicola Tesla and you book did you? Because it says Vera's name and almost the same speech he gives Dean's note on the comp and says that she was to be the heart of the Madre for breaking his heart i am paraphrasing as I don't have the game running at the time but yeah. Then why would her face be that scarred up? Or are those scars from before at the Big Empty? Why else would the Casino staff have taken her to Vera's room? Considering that, i am guessing Dean did that to her when he locked her in the Auto Doc in the Clinic. Sinclair didn't know how to let go either, which is why he is nothing but a corpse in the pipes below the vault.

The scares are from the big empty that given in dialogue the new voice was Dean's idea since he knew about the voice lock, the took the companions as approximations of certain people hence the different locations Elija tells you that. As for Sinclar he did let go of his anger hence the new note in the vault he was probably caught down there during the bombing or the cloud got him the holo tape on him is the one he pulled off the vault computer. As to the OP's question its stated in game that the ghost people are the villa workers stuck in hazmat suits theres no mention of anything approaching experimentation or lobotomizeing most likely the cloud and the radioation mutated them. They ignore the holograms because they can't be eaten or hurt any animal can learn over time.

Correct me if im wrong but i was under the impression that the holograms didnt attack the ghost people cuz they are the same construction workers that worked on the casino and got trapped, but they was workers that was allowed there under the security.

The holograms DO attack the Ghost People though. There's Dean's part in opening the casino, where you have to activate holograms to make him feel safe; they attack any nearby Ghost People. And later, I can't remember how exactly, but you can activate the Vera hologram in the lobby of the casino and that attacks the GPs as well.

I think the Ghost People are just a natural by-product of the Cloud and, really, I doubt that whole red toxic mist was planned by Sinclair. He built the Sierra Madre as a safehouse of sorts for Vera (eventually, after his change of heart) so that she could be saved after the war; surrounding it with a practically impassable Cloud and an army of deranged hazmat suit wearing lunatics seems rather counter-productive to that. As to their reverance for the Holograms, I always got the feeling that it was just a lack of understanding; the Ghost People thought the holograms were ghosts so avoided them.

And I didn't think Christine got a new face. I know she got Vera's vocal chords and just assumed that was how the computer figured she was actually Vera, but you may be right.

This is a poor explanation, but it's the only one I can think of that fits: the casino somehow detected their voice and used that to determine who they were. The reason being, even if Christine has been altered to look like Vera (albeit bald), Dean looks nothing like he did when the casino was built. Also, notably Dean sounds like a normal human, not raspy like other ghouls, so I believe it's reasonable to assume that his voice in-game is the same as it was pre-war. This seems to be the only identifying feature that the two exhibit consistent with their pre-war counterparts.

As for Dog... maybe he sounded like the head chef

I'm not sure if the Holograms attack the Ghost People in the villa, but they attack them in the Casino most probably because they aren't allowed inside. They are villa construction workers, not casino construction workers.

If the Holograms do attack the Ghost People in the villa, then I don't know. Maybe the Ghost People figured out that they had blind spots over time and used those to their advantage. They probably learned that they can't be killed, so they avoid them all together. Lets go over the facts.

GP can't eat Holograms
GP can't hurt Holograms
So the GP have no reason to go near the Holograms.

The GP are the construction workers, yet Holograms still attack the Ghost People. Perhaps the construction workers aren't allowed inside because they were considered intruders. So, the Holograms attempt to slaughter them the same way the actual residents were. Dean isn't attacked because he is a VIP at the Sierra Madre. Like in Point Lookout, it's all accessed by voice command. Christine got Vera's voice, therefore got access to the vault. Dean still sounded like Dean and got access to other things. Dog either sounded like a chef in the Cantina Madrid, or there was no Hologram interference in the kitchen during the pre-war era. I mean, who would want to eat food that holograms touched, right? :hubbahubba:
