Not really a fan, no. I was rather disappointed in it, for a few reasons.

1) It wasn't like the original Doom games at all, but took the series into a very new direction. This isn't necessarily bad, but after playing the first two games lots as a teen, I had certain expectations on the game even though I knew it would be nothing alike thanks to all the screenshots they showed during the development.

2) While the tech and graphics behind the game were top-notch and impressive for it's time, the actual gameplay just felt like a poor version of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Shock_2 (which also happens to be one of my favorite games of all time). The game started nicely to explore the calm non-combat parts and build up the story, but eventually the game design just fell flat, which brings me to the next point.

3) I'm not a fan of the whole scripted monster jumps out of the closet thing, and if the game keeps using it over and over it becomes very predictable, which is boring. Eventually when you walked into an empty room you knew that the moment you reach the center of the room, monsters will pop out. There were nothing surprising or unexpected about it, and the moment of surprise was pretty much gone from the rest of the game and instead it just became a chore. Dead Space have the exact same problem and is also a poor game because of it.

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, the best thing with Doom 3 is http://www.thedarkmod.com/.

Yes. It wasn't what i expected, and i feel classic Dooms are better, but overall it was quite an enjoyable experience. Especially the expansion.

The Mars base architecture, technology and lighting was really nice to look at, and don't look that dated even today. Also, Hell was pretty nicely done in both of them. Also, the way guns and monsters were 3D-ified was quite nice, too bad Arachnotron's didn't make it, though the new spider monsters were positively disgusting. And slightly provocative, like the Spider Daedra of Oblivion :hubbahubba:

I'm looking forward to Doom 4, after id are done with Rage, whatever that is :hehe:

I'm hoping it'll be a "remake" of Doom 2 in the same sense as Doom 3 was a "remake" of the original Doom. Or perhaps rather "reimagining"?

I was very young when I saw my dad play DOOM 2 on this Power PC (4 years old) I was also young when I got my copy of DOOM for the SNES (6 years old).

I guess I was still young when I played DOOM 3. (15 years old)

Since then my values of what to expect in video games has drastically changed I suppose. Small things like the removal of RPG elements (like in Mass Effect 2) will put me off the series.

From what I can remember I enjoyed DOOM 3. But If I was 15 when I played DOOM 1/2 and was 24 when I played DOOM 3, I can see how my values would have changed. Perhaps they will when DOOM 4 is shown?
