Finding a graphics card

How do you even compare graphics cards? How do you even know where to start? Requirements for NV on PC are "NVIDIA GeForce 6 series or better, ATI Radeon X1300 XT series or better"... so... that means nothing to me.

How do I know wth GeForce 6 series is and which ones are better? How do I know if ATI Radeon? HD 5670 Graphics is "better" than X1300 XT "series"?

When I look at Can You Run It, I get this:

Features: Minimum attributes of your Video Card
Required You Have
Video RAM 128 MB 1.7 GB
Hardware T&L Yes Yes
Pixel Shader version 3.0 4.0
Vertex Shader version 3.0 4.0

Now, that's onboard graphics, so I didn't expect it to meet requirements (Can You Run It says I FAIL for NV even though it then tells me that I meet all minimum requirements). The reason I put it here is because that's just one more stumbling block. What if I get something that has the same or better and it still fails?

I am considering moving to PC with this game, but this whole graphics thing is a real stumbling block for me. I'm ready to gouge my eyes out over this.

I would greatly appreciate any help or guidance or anything. Also, probably help to mention, I don't want to spend more than $125.00 on a card.

You google Nvidia ATI equivalents. It should take you to the wiki page for X series of card for either brand, which will tell you their equivalent.

This is more useful to you for picking one out. Setting a budget lets you get the best within the price, rather than fuss with looking at a million benchmarks.

For example, Nvidia Geforce 450's are in that price range, and I'd wager they'll do NV no problem. Radeon 5770 and 6770 have some cards in that price range as well, and this one I know is a well respected mid-range card for gaming.

I always http://i1002.photobucket.com/albums/af150/The_FalconO6/CurrentLogicalPCBuyingGuide/GuideSimple.png, but its just that helpful. Go to the GPU column and check them out and read their description. All priced and put in layman's terms.

I use http://www.overclock.net/graphics-cards-general/502403-graphics-card-ranking-5th-time-last.html on Overclock.net, which compares a huge number of graphics cards. I've found it very useful for figuring out how my lousy card compares to the mish-mash of model numbers in game system requirements. :)

(for a random example, various X1300 models are at #'s 159, 160, 186, 197, and 203. My card is at #128, so I can run a game that has the X1300 as a minimum.)
