Mid-Year Review

Post » Tue Jul 05, 2011 9:15 am

Coming into the year it looked like one of the best in recent years. With plenty of new and interesting titles that had great potential, such as Brink,Home Front,L.A.Noire and Dead Island. We also see the continuation of blockbuster series like Killzone, Dragon Age, Uncharted, Assassins Creed, Gears of War and The Elder Scrolls.

My questions to my fellow forumites is what do you think of the year so far, what do you think of the rest of the year and what has been your favorite game so far?

For me the year has been disappointing, Dragon 2, Brink and L.A. Noire are all games that I have played and have been let downs. Homefront has gotten practically no good reviews and I'm not running to Gamestop to purchase it. As for the good, Portal 2 was a huge success not only in my eyes but in the gaming communities. Killzone 3 was another game that did not fail to impress. There are a couple of games that I have not gotten my hands on yet such as Dead Space 2 and Infamous 2 which both seemed to be well received.

Looking at the rest of the year I still have high hopes. It seems impossible for the second half to flop with so many blockbuster games coming out.Dead Island is the next game I have my eye on and from what I read so far it fits my needs perfectly. Early last June I also got a pleasant surprise form our friends in Poland when CD Porjekt announced the Withcer 2 will hit the 360 later this year.

To pick a favorite of the previously released games is easy for me and Portal 2 in my opinion, for what its worth, has been the best game in 2011 so far.

Ok people express your opinions on these matters.

Have nothing to review seeing as I can't play any of those games at the mo', but I will say I'm pretty hyped to play Dead Island and Deus Ex 3 in the (hopefully near) future. There are others I want as well, but the former looks like it's going to be an amazing coop game, and the latter is...it's Deus Ex, for [censored]'s sake, of course I'm going to get it. Skyrim isn't in my waiting list, but I'm keeping an eagle's eye on it.

Oh yeah, also looking forward to Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2, though neither of those are guaranteed anymore. I have trouble committing myself to MMOs no matter how awesome they are, and Blizzard's choice for Diablo 3's art style still pisses me off. I really liked the dark and gritty nature of the first two, and now it's all cartoony. Seriously, keep your WoW in your WoW. <_<

So far I think this year has been lackluster. Everything awesome is being saved until later in the year.

So far, I've only gotten Portal 2 and Infamous 2. I guess if I had to choose one that was the best I'd choose Portal 2 although one of I2's endings was the best of any game I've played.

Still looking forward to many games including Skyrim, Uncharted 3, and Arkham City.

Very disappointing so far. Certain games were delayed (The Last Guardian), some announcements I was looking forward to haven't happened and E3 was just so terrible. L.A. Noire failed to deliver, which was quite a bummer. Square is unsure of Final Fantasy Type-0's Western release, Valkyria Chronicles III isn't happening, etc.

There's been some good though. Radiant Historia is easily my game of the year at the moment, Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (just started it yesterday, so good), 3DS launch, some nice looking (IMO) Final Fantasy XIII-2 gameplay footage. Looking forward there's Catherine, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and the PlayStation Vita. I'll also be importing Xenoblade Chronicles, seeing as Nintendo of Europe is (for once) far more competent than their American counterpart.

Overall, about on par for this generation.

The Witcher 2 has been the saving grace of gaming for me this year. Then Skyrim to finish up the year. It will be grand :celebration:

I've enjoyed all of the games I bought this year. So far I'm really enjoying Dragon Age II a lot more than Dragon Age: Origins due to the fact that it feels less like a typical fantasy world. Flemeth is especially awesome.

Dead Space 2 was also awesome.

:slap: To each their own I guess

I need to get around to playing Dead Space, maybe a Christmas/Birthday gift.

Yea I still need to get the first one, I'm going to wait until the second comes out for 360, I'm dying to get my hands on it.
