General public issues which annoy me

Post » Wed Jul 06, 2011 9:38 pm

This post i am trying to keep any form of offensiveness to a nil, if you are offended by it then i apolagise. This is not against Splash Damage, this is against the side of the public which seem to complain, although i will admit, it is in human nature to find the smallest faults and complain about something regardless of understanding and objectiveness, those who find an issue after genuinely exploring the game for what it is and i mean genuinely as in try all body types, try different weapons, load outs try and find something that suits *YOU*, this topic may discourage your point of view but it is not for you.

This is for people who pick up the game for a few hours, claim everyone are hackers, hardcoe gamers, have no lives or complain about the game balance, and other items of the game, with that being said, response is encouraged, positive or negative, but please try to keep an objective standpoint and no flaming/abusive responses please.

Please read the entire post properly before replying

  • Horrible Single Player - This is a game designed for a team experience, the AI is brilliant compared to other systems of AI and sometimes id rather have the AI on my team than the players, having said that the current possible level of AI will never compare to a smart and skilled player, also, who enjoyed C.O.D's single player? I didn't even finish the single player of black ops.

  • There are too many hackers - I have yet to see one on PC, admittedly i am Australian and we're lucky to get 2 full servers on PC (due to a horrible launch and the rest due to what im attempting to address in this post), the players i have seen aren't hackers, they are killable, they practice, hey i've been called a hacker and im up to 79 hours played on the date of this post. If you want an example watch the video i uploaded of me playing, (this site streams)(465mb for those with limited bandwidth)http://www.dailymotion.com/Gumbicus#videoId=xjqr6v.

  • The maps are too small No, they're not, unless you play heavy then you're limited in terms of pathways, some maps seem small but if you don't get past the first objective you don't see the rest of the map, good example is aquarium, that map is HUGE, but if you don't get past the first objective it seems small, also there are always atleast 2 pathways to get to the objective, in many cases 3, in a few, 4, these dont open up if you're atleast medium because you simply cant move across the terrain laid out for you, also some only light can move across.

  • There aren't many maps C'mon the game just launched with the AI I'VE seen, not saying there isnt better because for all i know there could be. i mean each C.O.D release had what? 8 maps? It just offered different play types and then maybe 6 months later offered a DLC with what 4? more maps, i remember in C.O.D 6 (MW2) sent out a DLC and 2 of the maps were from MW1, give them time i'd like to see you design and code up new maps AND fix bugs and minor balances like nerfing the Carb-9 (i use it, and it needed nerfing, still good however) in the amount of time they have had since launch (May 10 according to Wikipedia), hey i will even challenge you to do all that or simply build a map and maybe even see if you can sell it to splash damage, with as smooth a gameplay as this game has, the amount of effort that must have gone into the S.M.A.R.T system and making the maps compatible with it must have been enormous, especially for the terrain itself to have few bugs as it did on launch.

  • That guy moves too fast i can't kill him I play light, we're extremely vulnerable to grenades, knockdowns and mines, throw a grenade, learn to melee, stop aiming down the sites with chainguns and sniper rifles when we're close enough to melee you, use a grenade launcher attachment, the grenade damage itself we avoid easy, but im talking about the knockdown, if i get knocked down my chance of surviving come down to hoping i can kill the other guy with headshots / near headshots, and about 90% of the time i lose. Yes, when you hit someone with a grenade directly, they get knocked down, it just takes more accuracy than a soldiers molotov. Also grenade shooting can be useful in this case, means we can't dodge the explosion and most grenades kill us outright.

  • Light dies too easy Stick with it, the solution is with the essence of light and in my opinion, Brink, this is movement, if you don't move you don't live, i don't even use my sights unless im trying to take down a target at a distance and usually i just try to close it anyway by jumping off walls (its amazing how fast you can go, once again thanks Splash Damage for making this kind of multiplayer more interesting), remember sights slow you down, so to counter this i customise ALL of my light characters weapons for hip firing, and it works like a dream, if you don't believe me please watch the video.

And in the last couple weeks...

  • That grenade launcher is OP they're talking about the one that fires 6 grenades, its not op, target the player, kill them quick, avoid the grenades, and remember grenades knock you down, if you get knocked down by one of these you are dead because theres 3 more ontop of you, don't run away, move sideways, find some very close cover that will work against grenades, this gun has a horrific reload time which in my opinion is why it isn't OP so once they're out just kill him, if there's no cover, you could try and jump or strafe off a wall and kill him, and remember, movement, you're not going to take down one of these aiming down the sights, you move too slowly.

  • Impatience Once again i refer to my video sadly, and i will admit, those guys at the time of that video aren't terribly good, having said that Mupper and Naboosballbag are very good now and get me as much as i get them (especially Mupper), but if you see the way i move and how quick i am, this does not come overnight, this isn't something you will pick up immediately, C.O.D knifers and other people may pick it up quicker but be patient, play the game and i can guarantee you will be able to do that and probably even better, if the games frustrating you then have a break, play something else for a little while, then come back and have another go.

Now that all that has been said, i will reserve the next post and if you see anything that irritates you or what you think is complaint worth, which i haven't listed here i *encourage* you to post it and we'll see if i or someone else can address it in which case i will quote the person in the post below.

If what i've posted here is an unsatisfactory solution, response, well you're entitled to your opinion and as long as you've genuinely thought about it i won't try to convince you otherwise, also i encourage you to post the reason why so that i can think about it too, but please keep it objective, clear (in terms of understanding), flame / abuse free and please refrain from swearing, it only hurts your case and to me shows that you haven't thought about it and/or what you're writing, there are plenty of other ways to describe things.

Unfortunately i also realise that this will only reach the minority of those with an issue, so i encourage you to help them and explain to them these things in between respawns as it will improve the quality of the game for all, make it more challenging, and give Splash Damage more of a reason for more DLC's after the upcoming one and expansions or sequels.

Finally, thanks to Splash Damage and Bethesda for what i think is such a great game, i was tired of C.O.D and Halo as they are the same thing with every release and i don't particularly enjoy the Battlefield series.

My issue isn't a gameplay problem, and someone probably just needs to get off our computer. Anyway, my problem is that, even with the new update, I get horrible lag. And, sometimes, people seem like hackers because they kill you so fast, but they are probably using the Carb-9.

I pretty much agree with most of these posts. After a lot of time tinkering in single player, I find that the AI on you team actually will do the objectives if you in turn do most of the killing. That way they wont be distracted by incoming fire, get bored, and then focus on objectives. It kinda gives single player some replay value of the challenge. Mind you they are still not the best AI, but if they were too competent, the single player/co-op/challenge mode part of the game would be too easy and would give less incentive to bring friends or other human players to help out.

Think there's one map related issue missed. In terms of map size I think most maps are fine, however certain maps like Container City are a nightmare at the start for attacking players. Design flaws like bottle necked spawn killing are bothersome and the only solution is to blow up the gate as soon as possible and spam flash nades. An added bonus to this flaw is the defending team having a very well placed sniper nest at the top of the gate. I think that nest has to be filled with concrete as it provides both a high ground and cover. A good soldier can be both an AR sniper and grenade support from a very safe position, and devastate most attackers. Of course counter for that is a well placed flash nade but it will only work if any attacker can live long enough to throw one and then afterwards the sniper can just wait in cover till it passes. Also it seems that a lot of soldiers I see don't seem to use flash nades that much when needed. Guess they don't realize that each blinded player gives them an easy 30xp a piece.

People are negative Nancys or they like to compare one title to another. I honestly believe if we listened to everyone every game would be the same. The ONLY problems this game does have is:

Texture pops
Lack of matchmaking/lobbies/party system anything to make getting into games easier

I took a week or so off from playing video games, only one night did I give (at a Halo LAN party). I came back from my hiatus and fell in love with the game again. With a new found love of the assault rifles and the new mastery of SMGs I plagued the battlefield. Losing or winning I was having a great time. To me this game is sheer fun.

When I play this game I always wonder, "How could anyone just plain hate it?" You can do so much cool things. Combat is fun and visceral. I'm not limited to only four bullets penetrating my soft squishy flesh (even as a light), when taking fire I'm not limited to sprinting, crouching, and jumping to avoid bullets. I can slide, wall jump, and lean around corners.
