How to clean a PS3 slim

Post » Thu Jul 07, 2011 8:19 pm

So, I've had my slim PS3 for 9 months, now, and I think it's about time I cleaned it out. Anyone who's been into my room and seen where my PS3 and TV are could easily comment on how dusty it is. Dust accumulates fast and I want to make sure my PS3 lasts... especially since its warranty expires in three months and my last one ("fat" model) experienced a YLOD-related failure. How would I best be able to clear it of dust without voiding the warranty? How often should I clean it out, anyway? Should I also do something to clean out an HDTV?

I can't imagine there being too much dust in there. There was next to nothing in my launch PS3 when I opened it up after ~3 years. Still, if you unplug the PS3, hold down the eject button and then plug it back in (still holding down eject), the fan will rev up, possibly loosening/blowing out any dust that may be in there.

That's about all I can think of.

Really? Is your PS3 in a place that noticeably gather a layer of dust in just a week (what my room's like)? That fan trick can't possibly damage my PS3 in any way, can it?

It's supposedly overheating your PS3, so probably not something you'd wanna do. I've used it a few times before, though I've edited my original post as it's generally bad advice. :P

All I use is a can of air, one of those air dusters. I clean it about once a week with it and I've had my PS3 for a year and a half now.

Use a vacuum to svck out all the dust in the vents.

I just do that too, just run the vacuum cleaner trough the openings in the back. That's what i've done with every console i've had, and even the NES is still working :hehe:

And PC too, though i do open up the case occasionally and clean there too. A lot less with the new case that has a dust filter in the front.

Funny, somewhat related story, my PS2 slim wouldn't read dual-layered DVDs. I vacuumed the air vents in the back and front, and it started working perfectly. I'm still

What setting should I set the vacuum to?
