BioShock Infinite GTTV 14-minute Demo

So did anyone else watch the 14-minute BioShock Infinite demo on Gametrailers TV on Spike? That was one of the best things I've ever watched. No wonder it won so many E3 game of the show awards. Good lord. :ahhh:

As a BIG Elder Scrolls fan, I believe BioShock Infinite deserved those awards and recognition, it was literally like I was watching a movie. Whats funny is that BioShock got a pretty quiet success @ E3 too, of course I say that becuase alot of games (including Skyrim of course  ) got alot of facetime, like Halo, ME3, Uncharted 3 and the like. Of course that is my opinion :)

Indeed. I was apprehensive about "Bioshock 3" not featuring Rapture at all, but now I can't wait for it.

Eh..it looks way too linear and scripted. Makes me wonder why they didn't just make a Bioshock film instead.

Not trying to be overly critical, I just have a problem with games that are essentially just semi-interactive movies. They're enjoyable the first time, but then I immediately get rid of them. It annoys me even further when I realize I just paid four to five times the amount that I normally would for a movie.

IMO, that's an insult to a video game. If somebody said that about a game I created, I'd feel like I had no idea what I was doing. To me, a game should give the vast majority of the control to the player, not guide them along a narrow path, riddled with cutscenes, scripted disastrous events, action movie dialogue, etc. It's okay to include that stuff, but only in moderation. If your entire game is built on those elements, it's just a failure as a video game (Though I admit, games like that certainly have a high "Wow" factor).

Bioshock 1, I believe, contained a very healthy mix of both movie-like qualities and being a good game. It put the player in large environments, free to explore, then had something epic and climactic happen within them. Infinite looks like it's just a long string of epic and climactic events, with short bursts where you're allowed to pick and choose your attacks and kill enemies, then it's back on the rail you go.

I'm inclined to agree with this.

I have no doubt the story and art direction are fantastic, but the gameplay... where, exactly, is it?

I was blown away. The weapons look leaps and bounds better than those of Bioshock 1 and 2, and the zipline system looked intense. That was a fantastic demo; one of the best I've ever seen.

My initial reaction was to agree with Sub_Tonic but what we're seeing is the opening movement setting out the story to the game. I suspect once Elizabeth has been taken away again things are less on rails and you're given a bit more freedom. At least, I hope so. It reminded me of Mass Effect 2 in terms of its overall slickness and epic feel.

What I don't get is how those 'tears' Elizabeth creates will be a constant gameplay feature, because as I understand it she'll be locked away, unable to help.

Also I noticed that "Revenge Of The Jedi" was showing at the cinema

I'm hoping you're right and that all of the, uh, "gameplay" footage I've seen thus far eventually leads to much more freedom for the player. That's one hell of a long scripted opening, though, if that's the case.
