Eh..it looks
way too linear and scripted. Makes me wonder why they didn't just make a Bioshock film instead.
Not trying to be overly critical, I just have a problem with games that are essentially just semi-interactive movies. They're enjoyable the first time, but then I immediately get rid of them. It annoys me even further when I realize I just paid four to five times the amount that I normally would for a movie.
it was literally like I was watching a movie
IMO, that's an insult to a video game. If somebody said that about a game I created, I'd feel like I had no idea what I was doing. To me, a game should give the vast majority of the control to the player, not guide them along a narrow path, riddled with cutscenes, scripted disastrous events, action movie dialogue, etc. It's okay to include that stuff, but only in moderation. If your entire game is built on those elements, it's just a failure as a video game (Though I admit, games like that certainly have a high "Wow" factor).
Bioshock 1, I believe, contained a very healthy mix of both movie-like qualities and being a good game. It put the player in large environments, free to explore, then had something epic and climactic happen within them. Infinite looks like it's just a long string of epic and climactic events, with short bursts where you're allowed to pick and choose your attacks and kill enemies, then it's back on the rail you go.
