Snipers Of Brink, Lend Me Your Ears

Post » Mon Jul 11, 2011 11:27 am

As my seconary weapon, I normally load myself out with the Barnett Light Rifle with COGA sights because sometimes I'm in those situations where taking 10 minutes to equip the Rifle is actually quicker than getting closer to a MG Nest target or another sniper (The equip time is awful, as is the reload, but it is a Sniper Rifle at the end of the day, so I don't judge it)

I've seen some Brink gameplay videos where people have been putting the COGA on SMGs and AF's and doing relatively well with them. I've also seen other Snipers in a game using the Dragonov Rifle and killing me pretty consistanly with them in one game. Now I've tried these two options and haven't really gotten on well with them but I am slowly finding more and more that the Barnett does have it's issues.

So I need advice on either a better choice in Sniper weaponry or in how best to maximize my performance with the Barnett.

As for the sort of player I am to aid in advice:
* I prefer hitting a standing player, over a running one (say if a player is buffing/reviving, these are the people I'm gunning for first)
* I don't risk a headshot unless I'm gunning for other Snipers or MG nest users.
* I often lean out rather than crouching on the spot, leaning of course making it harder to see the whole range of an area for the trade of more cover.
* I prefer not to use silencers, although if I'm given a good case to trade damage for not being noticed on the mini-map, I might consider them.
* If I'm out of Ammo, I tend to grab my Primary gun and get closer to the action, rather than finding a command post/soldier

Any advice would be useful, help me improve my Sniper'in game!

On a serious note, I find that the Barnett can take the stability penalty from a Speed Sling, since stability is only useful for maintaining sustained fire - which the Barnett cannot. Barnett + Speed Sling + COGA/Greeneye/Snoop-R = good. Best played as Engineer to exploit that damage buff.

You could also give the Rockstedi + Rapid Fire a shot.

I've always wondered WTF Stability actually did. Thank you. Now that the Rifle can be equiped a lot faster, I just need tips and ideas on how best to use it, or another better suited Sniper varient that matches my play style

I use Barnett and Dragonov with iron sights with no attachments, much much better than COGA, and that Snoop-R svcks.

I use the dragnov as a run and gun sniper type weapon... popping around corners to drop players in one fell swoop... I do however keep a coga on it just for those instances of playing maps like sectower where it can get somewhat long range

One bit of advice imo when u ads w your scope after the shot let go of the ads button then quickly hold it again., for some reason the reload time is dramatically shorter than keeping the ads button held. and its seems that way its easier to stay on target because u are also reloading the auto aim . If u fire and keep holding the ads button while u auto reload the scope swings taking you off target , also making the entire animation take longer .

Rapid Fire is pointless on a Rokstedi, since even without it, it still fires too fast for the spread to catch up and settle down between shots. Spamming the trigger, even with standard mags to maximise accuracy, you'll notice that the spread starts to grow and your bullets will be going everywhere. Rapid Fire is only really useful on the Rokstedi for hip-fire, and even then only at point-blank range.

I've been using the mossington as my primary and keeping the Barnett with a C-U-Gone as my back up. The only advice I can give you is use the crap out of that engineer buff, and get the skill that increases the buff further. And no matter if you're buffed or not, look for enemies whose health bars have taken a slight hit--those guys can be easy OHKs even with a shot to the chest. Good luck!

Oh, and watch behind you for operatives like me :whistling:
