X3 Discussion

Post » Wed Jul 13, 2011 5:28 pm

Many people including myself picked up the X games in the Summer Camp sale, primarily TC, so I figured a discussion thread was in order.

Can you have wingmen? i.e. allies flying next to you killing stuff.

If you own additional space ships, you can assign them to follow or protect you. Personally, I don't reccomend putting your own ship into a wing formation. If your in a wing formation, any orders given to the wing will also be carried out by your ship's AI. (All ships in a wing perform the same task when assigned) YOu can keep control of your own craft while also having escorts if you simply order some of your ships to protect your craft.

I've owned the retail copy of X3:TC for a while, though I just re-downloaded it recently too. (the retail game came with a key to enter it into your Steam library)

So far I only just completed the patrol missions of the Terran pilot.

Ugh, patrol missions, what a pain in the ass. I love p2p jump drive mods.

If you get a TS, equip it with a ore collecter and mobile drilling system, go to kingdom end, there should be a nvidium asteroid [might not be big enough to scan] somewhere (you still have that egosoft forum link? there's a thread there about it), break it up until there are only rocks small enough to be retrieve with the ore collector, and then change ships, leave the TS at the site of the rocks, and leave the system. Order the TS to collect the nvidium, and it will keep collecting nvidium until it's cargo is full. (when you're not in system, a ship performing an ore collection order won't actually reduce the amount of available ore, like it would if you were inside the system) You can also do this trick with silicon or ore, but Nvidium generates greater profit. You could also find an nvidium rock somewhere else and perform the trick in another sector.

edit: Forgot one thing. Once the cargo hold is full, fly the ship to a shipyard and sell it.

Picked this up a couple of weeks ago. Seems quite enjoyable so far, though i'm really not seeing why some of my friends rate it as one of the best games of all time. I dunno... maybe it's one of those games that only gets really good after 30-40hrs...

When your manipulating the gate network and destroying Xenon K's with a fleet of Boreas while managing a trade empire that's responsible for the stabilization of the economy in several regions of space, you'll now why it's awesome.

I don't doubt it.

I guess the fact that a lot of people do rate it as one of the best games ever made is enough incentive for me to stick with it and carry on.

This game is awesome. My one sector trader is currently level 6 so I don't have any Uni traders yet, but it's making me quite a lot of money. I need to buy the Trader MK III upgrade for the Mercury i'm currently in and I also need to buy a combat ship too so I can go explore some additional sectors.

I really need to get some advanced satellites set up too. :P

I WANT X3 but I no longer have the time to put hundreds of hours into games, so I've reached an impasse. :(

Does this game have a story?
Also, did anyone else pick the custom character rather than the premade ones? What's the difference?

The custom character start doesn't have access to any of the storyline quests.

The game has several plot questlines, including the Terran plot, Operation Final Fury, the hub plot, the aldrin missions, and others. You cannot play these if you choose the custom start. These plotlines offer great rewards and give access to very useful tools such as the player headquarters and the Hub.
