Battlefield 3.

Post » Tue Jul 19, 2011 7:53 pm

I reserved BF3 for my PS3 a few weeks ago, but since then my old PC crapped out and I decided to build a new gaming PC. I was just wondering if the build I have (look at my sig) could max out BF3 and still get good performance. As well as if it's better to have it on PC or PS3 for multiplayer and gameplay.

So what do you guys think?

you should be able to max it out no problem.

PC would definitely be better for multiplayer just because spotting isn't assigned to some obscure button that nobody's ever going to push http://www.gameguru.in/img/operation-hastings-pc-unlocked.jpg.

Your PC can max it, which brings it down to the simple question of which the gameplay is better on, which is always PC, so get it for PC.

Get it for the PC though I'm boycotting it until they put it on steam.

PC, without a doubt. Certain game genres are better on consoles (driving games, fighting games, platform games, sports games, action-adventure games)... while others are better on the PC (strategy games, FPS games, a lot of RPGs)

I wouldn't recommend an FPS game to anyone for the console if it's also available for the PC.

This. But if they don't put it on Steam within a month or two I'll be getting it anyway. PC is so much better for Battlefield games.

The experience on both systems will be the same. The 64 players in the PC version will be great, but I'm personally sticking to the PS3 for this game because I like console controls more and I get to play while I'm being lazy on a couch. It all really come down to whether your PC can run the damn game. If you want great gameplay with beautiful graphics, then spend $1000 for an amazing PC. If you want great gameplay and smaller maps with less players, but doesn't initially cost $750-1000, get BF3 for PS3. Also, I'd recommend getting it for whichever system more of your friends have. Either way, you won't feel shafted or left out on the console version. Just know that DICE loves your PC brethren more. Don't let it get to you. Alot of parents don't love their children. :)

I'll just stop you there. ;)

Bad Company 2, for example, is far superior on the PC than on the 360. It's not just the way it looks, it's the way the actual mechanics work. Firing is more responsive, there isn't as much lag, the graphics are sharper, and the sound is much better.

I still prefer the 360 controller to a mouse and keyboard though.

PS3:24 players
PC:64

Need I say more? (better graphics, better controls, better system, better everything really)

Why do people still think you need an expensive PC to play games? Hardware equivalent to current consoles is 5+ years old now. Not platform-bashing here...just a reality check. The OP's rig will own everything with one "hand" tied behind its figurative back for years...at least until the next generation of consoles are out. The only reason I could think of to get the PS3 version with a PC like that is if all of your friends are going to be playing on PSN. It's too bad they won't let everyone play together, but http://www.rahulsood.com/2010/07/console-gamers-get-killed-against-pc.html.

Anyway, IMO, FPS is mouse. Always. That's all I have to say about that.

Well considering that I just spent about $1500 I think I have the PC covered. :P

Anyways thanks for the input guys! :)

I've never played an FPS on the PC before so I was a little wary about getting it, but thanks to you guys I'm starting to see the benefits of playing on the PC. Might take a while for me to get used to using a keyboard and mouse for fast paced stuff though.

And even you prefer a controller and TV, those aren't exclusive to consoles by any means. Plus, pretty much anyone who owns a console has a PC or laptop for browsing anyway. Factoring in that cost you might as well spend the console money on a new video card, PS3 or 360 controller (or any other USB controller), and HDMI cable.

There is not a single reason to get the PS3 version over the PC version, aside that your computer can't handle it.

If your smart you can build a PC that can run all modern games close to max for 600 bucks. You won't that rig on a shelf in best buy though.

Okay, but I had my friends and people on this forum help me pick out a good gaming PC and it came out to around $1000, so if you can find anything like that for $300, let me know.

But you can't. Which is why I said the console version would be for those without the money for super-awesome-six-machine-3000 computers.

I also just happen to like the Trophy/Achievement system which most PC games lack and which Steam isn't very well-known for nor good at. But like I said, the experience will be the same no matter what, so I'm sure I'll enjoy BF3 on my PS3 just as much :)

And console exclusives are great.

Anyhow, I love the PC and I wish I had one that could run a game like BF3 on low settings lol, but sadly I don't and I'm spending all my will-be-earned money on the PS Vita, some holiday-release console games, and baseball equipment. So even if I saved all that money for a good PC, I still wouldn't have enough; so I said "[censored] it," and just abandoned my dream of a gaming PC for another day, or perhaps another life. The console community may be smaller, but I like to think the games released for it are better, unless they are also released on the PC :P

Sorry for my sorta off-topic rant, but I just needed to vent.

That post makes no sense.

And the experience is not the same on both platforms, PC has wayyy more going for it than graphics alone.

And dont think that gaming pc's are too expensive. If you hold on the psp vita and summer games you'll be able to get a pc that can run most games medium. (which is still better than consoles)

And okay, but I don't want to get a medium PC lol, I'm an all-or-nothing guy. But I'll probably get an amazing PC in a few years once I become super rich from an idea I've yet to think of, or at least when I get outta college a long time from now. But consoles aren't that bad, and are better in a lot of ways, but just are worse in a lot of ways too...

I see no reason not to get it on PC to be honest. I am by no means a graphics [censored], but I don't really see the point in spending the same money on an inferior version when you have an extremely capable PC.

I'm reluctant to say you'll be able to max the game out, however whatever settings you end up playing at with steady framerates will still be above and beyond what you'd see on PlayStation 3.

In all fairness, I have a relatively low end PC. AMD Athalon II runs about 60 bucks and my GPU, an nVidia GeForce GTS250, runs about 100 bucks. It was built about 5 years ago by my brother for about 500 bucks but you can easily get it for around 300. I can play any new title on high settings and can max out just about anything. If you have the time to watch the one hour tutorial on how to build a computer made by NewEgg and the couple hours it'll take to put it together, I suggest going for it. You'll even get games like Team Fortress 2 and Lord of the Rings Online for free!

PC. Even if you can't max it, it's still going to look better than on PS3. Mouse + keyboard is better than controller, better community, better servers, more players, better customizability (even if the only extra option on PC is to change your FOV in an .ini file like in BC2, that alone is worth it.).

I'd say since your PC can max it out than go for it.

Get it on PC, if you can.
I won't be getting it at all, since it's so gimped for consoles.
