Difficulty levels. : Othor Games

Does anyone else find it annoying that most games these days, you have to play the game through once before unlocking the hardest difficulty?

I'll quote myself...

Developers often seem to underestimate gamers, but then again I know people who are still trying to get into gaming and constantly struggling.
