Costuming

Post » Sun Jul 24, 2011 10:08 pm

Tomorrow I'm heading out to a friend's to try to finish up my Mandalorian armor. Aside from the helmet most of the armor is being made from scratch. This isn't my first costume though, some of you might remember my Noble Six suit. I'm also seeing if I might like to get my degree in costume design. This inspired me to make this thread.

I figured I'd make a thread where people can show off their costumes, as well as a hub for resources and guides to make your own epic creations. If anyone has a question, feel free to ask!

I'm going to be working on a Darth Revan costume tomorrow for the release of The Old Republic. It's going to be my first time sculpting and making molds so wish me luck!

Has anyone else done costuming/cosplay? If you have, show some pictures! Or if you're interested in getting into costuming, let me know and I'll try to answer any questions.

You're pretty good at making those dude. I've never really done anything like it before but it seems cool.

The Mandalorian helmet? I used Hasbro's recently released Boba Fett voice-changer helmet as a base, then reconstructed the face and added a much darker visor.

Those are some pretty amazing costumes. I'd be terrible at making anything like that, sadly. I'm not artistic at all.

You don't really have to be. :P

Didn't get anything done today, but hopefully tomorrow I'll have some progress on my Darth Revan mask.

First time I've ever seen that emoticon, and it looked costumy.

I plan on making the unused Morag Tong assassin armor from Morrowind for the Skyrim midnight launch. :P

This is my first time sculpting, so please be gentle, but let me know what you think. :)

Spoiler
It's off center on the white base...

Pretty cool, man. I sure wouldn't have the patience for this stuff.

I think the best video game costume I've ever seen is this guy's recreation of Garl Vinland's armor from Demon's Souls. He actually hand made everything there. http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/6853/7916944.jpg http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/2508/7916935.jpg http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/5701/7916948.jpg

I then used fiberglass resin to make the paper hard enough to old it's shape, then used fiberglass cloth/matte to reinforce it's backing. Give it a paintjob and you're done. :)

Huh, clever, didn't think of that. Thanks for the tip!

I've always wanted to show up at comic-con with a Sauron outfit. :( Too bad I didn't get that volcano forge I wanted for christmas, or I would wear that suit 24/7.

Seriously, I would absolutely love to have Sauron's armor sitting in my closet. It would be awkward when a girl finds it and asks "what is that", but I wouldn't care. I doubt I will, but if I ever get the time, how would I make a (semi-authentic looking) Sauron armor? That is, without the usage of tin-foil.
