1) Emjayhaych, why not join now?
Because im joining ---> http://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/royalmarines/ (equal or maybe above your SEAL's, these are the guys the SAS go to first for selection. ) 99% of people who apply fail, so im spending these 3 years getting into perfect shape :) another reason i need cash for equipment

Why not join the army or navy and then do a lateral transfer?

Your 17 and have already gone through college?

College only refers tertiary education in the US, in commonwealth countries its secondary education.

A word of encouragement: My dad was in the US Special Forces, which is the top of the line in the army, equivalent to the British SAS. There is a super high failure rate for that too, and in fact, my dad failed 2 times before he got in. The one thing he always said when he used to tell his stories is that you have to want it. He failed, and he tried again. Then he failed again, then tried again. Then he got in. If you want it bad enough, nothing can stop you; you will find a way.

Also, he was in a different branch of the army first, which goes along with what Aka Thunder was talking about. In fact, are you sure that the Royal Marines don't have service requirements?

From what I gather, it's really tough out there jobwise in the UK. I do think the fact you're going direct to employers with a CV will work massively in your favour. As you're looking at joining the military, it might really work in your favour to go for manual labour jobs, construction etc, purely to enhance your fitness?
