How to Quote and Multiquote

Post » Tue Aug 02, 2011 5:36 pm

It's come to my attention lately that a lot of people don't know how to quote nor multiquote... Being as how I had to teach myself, I figured I'd do my best to pass on the knowledge to everyone else. It'll greatly reduce the amount of posts and sheer stress on the forum servers... So here goes, I'm going to keep this simple:

To "Quote" something, all you have to do is hit the "Reply" button directly beneath the post you're trying to quote.
To Multiquote is a bit more difficult... Click the "MultiQuote" button under each individual post you want to MultiQuote and then click the "Add Reply" button (located just above the "Fast Reply" box).

This should clear up some confusion and hopefully teach those of you who don't know how to do it.

Quoting is helpful for many reasons...
-It gives you solid reference points when responding to a particular piece of text, or multiple responses at once. Keeping you on track.
-As mentioned above, reduces the amount of posts per thread and thus reduces stress on the overall forum.
-It dictates who you're talking to so there is no confusion during busy times.
-You can edit all the text in the quotes so you can either BOLD/UNDERLINE/ITALICIZE key points or reduce the quote to the part you're replying to. This helps clear up cluttered responses and makes everything easily digestible.

A great warning:
Also that if you quote someone that linked anything illegal, like a scan or an inappropriate link, you get dinged for it too, so be careful!

Thank you, tgl!

So there you have it. I hope to god anyone who doesn't know about this reads this and I didn't just waste my, and your (if you know already), time. :P

Yep, I dont know if I was clear, tbh, but heres what an anonymous mod PM'ed me a while back, hence where I got the rule:

"You do know that quoting posts with content that contravenes forum rules make you liable to a warning as well as the original poster - plus it makes more work for the moderators to clean up and thus makes them more grumpy and more likely to issue a warn. :slap:"

LMAO! That seriously just made my night. I just spent an infuriating round on the Terminal getting crushed by Psychic-Power-Shotting-Uber-Aim Bots.
So this was a welcomed compliment. :P

Yeah. That's one I'm not even going to TRY to teach people how to do. @.@

Eh, it's not too hard. It's just quote tags inside other quote tags basically. I don't think there's a way to do it automatically though, so it's got to be done manually.
