but...
Let's take a look at all the most popular FPS game the last 8 years or so.
Counter-strike
CoD series
TF2
Battlefield series
SOCOM series
Some of those games have more of a following than others, but they all have longevity and a dedicated fan base. Why?
1)The competitive scene and
2) the enjoyability of the game for casual gamers.
Brink has only one of these two key factors, and it's not the competitive scene. A clan system was promised on release and they haven't delivered. I don't think Splash Damage/Bethesda realize how many people didn't buy or no longer play because of the lack of lobby and clan support. My whole clan and most of my friends got Brink and then stopped playing because THERE WAS NO CLAN SUPPORT. Relying on the player base to make a competitive scene doesn't work. The developer/publisher needs to provide the basic tools.
Don't give up on Brink yet. It is an amazing game that still has potential, if you support the competitive scene.
To start, add a clan system and a lobby system and see your game's player population grow. I just hope it isn't too late.
