Wait, we hate Activision now? I thought we all hated EA? Wow.... I've been out of the loop for way to long.

Oh man, this seems way too good to be true. I was hoping another publisher would pick it up after Activision canceled it and ignited an everlasting rage from me towards them. I could feel Bobby Kotick spitting on my childhood when he cancelled it, after bothering to revive one of my favorite series from back then and stringing me along for a year. If TC: HK actually gets released this time, I'll be in love with Square Enix for this for like, ever, or at least a year or two.

Edit: Well released under a different name in a new franchise, of course, but I'm fine with that...

Wish granted :P

Woohoo! It's great seeing a game ressurected from the black hole of speculation doom (similar to what us TES fans were in this time last year) and especially one which I felt showed much promise of pulling a medicore francise up to one that could rival Saints Row, Crackdown or GTA.

I hope its a good game, then we can poke fun at Activision for not thinking it had enough potential and instead focusing on more freaking COD, which will inevitably end up the same way as Guitar Hero did. And sooner, too.

Rather prefer a new Grandtheftauto, but i did have good times playing True Crime: NYC on my PS3. Cant say the same for Streets of LA.

EA hasn't been the absolute devil of the game industry for at least a year or so now. Lately they've been trying pretty hard to get that title back though.

I for one have lost faith in the series

I LOVED True Crime Streets of LA, and New York, though bugged as hell was still entertaining. When I heard there would be a True Crime III I was ecstatic

until Luxaflux was lost (I think they're gone) Luxaflux had a humor that brought the True Crime series to life for me. When I heard it was going under new developers I still had hope but was a bit more reserved. When I found out it was going for a more serious tone I lost my interest.

I like dark stories, I like dramatic stories, I like good writing, but True Crime was not supposed to be a dramatic crime thriller. TC: LA was meant to be a parody of the old '70s Kung Fu movies. It was wild, crazy and down-right hilarious. it's one of those games you were supposed to have a senseless good time with. Nick Kang is easily one of my favorite video-game characters.

Seriously, what other game would have you in a Kung Fu match with Kim Jong Ill on the top of the tallest building in Los Angeles in the middle of a freak thunder storm with death metal playing?

What's more, the game actually had Branching Story-lines, quite a few of them actually, that's more than Fable (also released at the same time) could boast. IT had a system in place where if you failed a mission the story would proceed accordingly. What would happen if Nick Kang failed to save his brother? Well the story let's you see that if you failed the mission. There were three endings to the game not including the alternate missions depending on if you passed or failed a mission.

It was cleverly written with a lot of tongue and cheek humor.

New York, though not as good, was still fun for me. The level of freedom in combat was refreshing and though there were fewer branching paths the story was better and did still maintain some of the old avant-garde humor.

At this point I'm assuming, being Square Enix, that this will dissolve into a horrid mess of anime-emo-drama and completely lack the spirit the original two games had.

They haven't done that with Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, Hitman or Thief since acquiring Eidos. Why would they pick up the rights to a title this far into development just to basically scrap everything and do their own thing? They can't even cash in on the True Crime name since they didn't get the actual IP.

At most they'll have their Japan-based studio Visual Works do CGI trailers for the game as they have Deus Ex and Tomb Raider.

well...you got me there.

I forgot they also had Tomb raider and Deus Ex which look great.

Again though, from the little I've seen, even under its previous developers it looked like they abandoned the original formula. I'm skeptical about TC. I, like Antibody, have a special fondness for both TC games.

Gosh, people are so fast to assume this?

Ever realized that they are just publishers, Eidos is likely to be the developer, they are more than good to do it, after watching Deux Ex, Tomb Raider and Hitman, I have faith in them

Edit;Forgot to mention Thief 4

I haven't played the previous TC games and find the GTA games I've played rather boring, but I'm still interested in this game simply because it takes place in Hong Kong. So I'm pleased it's alive again, and being a Square-Enix game it's more likely that it will drop in price faster than if it had been an Activision game :P

Definitely true. Same goes for discounts. Vampire Bloodlines was on sale on Steam last week, I don't remember the last time that happened. :P

Isn't this because Square is publishing the game and not developing them?

Almost every Final Fantasy game as it's "sad" moment where it tries to hard to lack any real emotion.

Also I though Capcom was the new EA since what's happened with Megaman Legends 3.

As a Hong Konger, I want to be able throw acid flasks down the street and then run away from the police, then hide myself amongst the protesters that are on the show almost every week, throw an egg at the police or get myself in the police uniform then started pepper sprayer actions in the street.

But then when this game ended up like GTA, the government would be all over the media saying it did not reflect the true beauty and safety that is Hong Kong. It could be good, but the thought of it makes me laugh inside out.
