The last horror game I played was Bioshock 2 and I'm disappointed... anyone thoughts of EXTREMELY SCARY horror games except for Amnesia?

Silent Hill 2 scared the absolute [censored] out of me. Creepiest game I've played.

Bioshock was hardly horror; try Amnesia: the Dark Descent.

Never played it myself but I've heard it's especially scary and disturbing.

Oh sorry, I didn't read your post properly. I'd say try the Thief series, there are some scary elements in those games (especially the third one)

Fatal Frame series, Silent Hill series, Condemned, Penumbra series, Thief series, System Shock 2, Resident Evil Remake, and Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth.

The first Bioshock was AMAZING in the horror department.

I'm going to add another vote for System Shock 2. VERY creepy. Also, Thief: Deadly Shadows has one of the scariest levels ever created: The Cradle.

Thief: Deadly Shadows has one of the scariest levels ever created: The Cradle.

That level is creepy enough, but try ghosting it on the highest difficulty. Ghosting means to never come into contact with any enemies or heavily alert them to your presence. They must be left alive/conscious on their patrols. It's extremely unpleasant to do in Cradle.

I found Silent Hill 3 scarier. 2 has better story, though.

The first two games in the Penumbra series. Black Plague in particular is almost as scary as Amnesia in some parts, and it's made by the same people.

Your mileage might vary, but I found "Dead Space" disturbing. It was hard for me to think quickly enough while being rushed by a half-dozen of those horrors.

The first F.E.A.R. game was pretty intense, since I was never sure when the next attack would come.

I recommend "Clive Barker's Undying" also.

Ah, I forgot Dead Space. Not particularly scary, but incredibly tense and atmospheric (Especially on the higher difficulties). Would definitely recommend to all fans of horror.

As for FEAR, I found the first game mind-numbingly tedious and repetitive. Ironically enough, the supposed "not scary at all" FEAR 2 managed to freak me out several times. I guess either FEAR's brand of horror gets better with its graphics or I'm just an odd case.

Fallout 3 does atmosphere well in places.

Dear Esther I've heard is fantastic. Personally I'm waiting for the full release. (it started out as a critically acclaimed HL2 mod that is now getting the full treatment by a small indie studio headed by the guy who wrote the original mod).

Penumbra and Amnesia (I know you said no Amnesia but I can't talk about decent horror games without bringing it up)

Silent Hill 2. I started playing it for the first time recently and even today it's incredibly scary.

Condemned. And +1 for Dead Space. Silent Hill, Undying and Thief are just awesome.

Since all the good ones except one haven't been mentioned, I'll do the honours. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines has the awesomely scary Ocean House hotel.

+1 to F.E.A.R. (2)

I don't know whether this is scary enough for you, but you might want to try S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or Metro 2033. They have quite a few moments that can make you jump and the general atmosphere is dark.
