Fingerprint Technology Breakthrough

Post » Sun Aug 07, 2011 2:19 am

The fingerprint technology currently in use will only give you a ridge pattern, but the new technique also provides a chemical signature. In essence, you can use someone's fingerprint to identify if they've recently had a cup of coffee or handled a condem. You can use it to identify if they've ingested drugs or handled explosives. In the United Kingdom, they're expecting to roll this out to police within three to four years.

I have privacy concerns, especially if the technology becomes portable enough.

I don't like this at all. The hippy in me says to ever stop crime, you need to raise every kid in the correct environment. No matter how much new tech they throw at it, criminals will always find a way around the tech, and the cycle won't end.

Uhhh... how exactly does new fingerprinting technology, used by police, have much of an effect on how children are raised? Regardless of the use of technology or not, criminals will always exist in some form or another.

No matter what you do, someone will not like what you do. There will always be criminals unless we gain complete control over society and what they do, which is impossible. It is a never ending cycle. We can regulate it, but not obliterate it... Hey, that's a good quote!

This is sad news indeed. The future will be empty of tv shows like Columbo and Murder She Wrote if this trend in law enforcement continues.

Am I the only one who finds this creepy as [censored] and very 1984-esque? Methinks this is bad mojo.

I never said that it did.

True, but I'm fond of the idea that if raised properly, you could prevent children from growing up to be violent. That's why I chose the words 'correct environment', as what makes you a criminal can vary greatly. I believe violence, however, is universally deemed criminal, as there is nothing constructive about it.

Well, the question is then what is the "correct environment" to raise children in. And then there's the issue of how to raise a child properly. Obviously both complicated questions and part of the reason I'm never planning on having kids. :P

If only we knew, dude. I don't think there is much feasibility in the idea of raising every kid into a peaceful person, so we are pretty much forced into this constant one-up game with criminals and law enforcement. Which svcks, because when I get arrested for public intoxication, I don't want them fingerprinting me and finding out I was itching my ass ten minutes beforehand.

Time traveling hit-men who kill pre-criminal citizens,............sounds good to me.(shrug) and logical at that.

Now excuse me while I go murder some fetuses.

Sounds more like CSI than 1984 to me.

Yeah. Criminals are like Light Warriors, who are like a disease. You cure the infection by killing the host, but but someone else will just catch it. So if you want to cure the plague, you have to kill everybody.

If they haven't been born yet, are they actually alive in order to be killed?
