Forum Troubleshooting

Post » Mon Aug 08, 2011 5:18 pm

So I upgraded to IE 8 or 9 whichever one is newest and now when I click my username in the top left corner to activate the drop down menu it automatically refreshes and takes me to the profile page rather than letting me select between the options. This is really annoying because I usually click the menu and go to "my content" to quickly check threads for new replies or responses. Is there any way to stop this annoying problem or is this version of IE incompatible with the forum? Is there some option I can check to fix this?

Thanks in advance guys.

1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737

2. If that doesn't work, nothing we can do, it's something deep in your registry or a bug in IPB. Switch to Firefox/Chrome

I recommend switching to Firefox/Chrome whether or not #1 works, but that's just me ;) (It should be noted that I don't use Firefox or Chrome, but use Opera, so no one can call me a fan boy :P)

I guess the forums just aren't compatible with the new version of IE then. The old version worked fine but I figured I'd update and maybe the browser would work better...it does with the exception of this forum. Anyways thanks anyways guys, if anybody else has the answer on how to fix this besides changing browsers I'd be happy to hear it, otherwise I guess I'll just get over it. :brokencomputer:

When you switch broswers: welcome to the wonderful world of extensions. When you tell us whether you switched to Firefox or Chrome, we'll post a long list of awesome extensions to make your browsing better (Adblocking, web rating, proxy switching, password management, etc) :)

If IE9, click the broken page looking icon near the refresh icon (top right). Clicking it will enable Compatibility Mode (IE8 mode) for the website. Note: Compatibility Mode will remain set for the website until untoggled. Compatbility mode is in effect when the icon is highlighted blue.

IE9 (fixed in Compatibility Mode) has many issues with the forum:
1) Duplicate Pop-up tabs when clicking on hyperlinks on the forum.
2) Inability to use arrow keys to move text cursor when editing forum replies/posts.

Compatibility Mode does have issues too mainly related to CSS settings.
1) Button edges aren't rounded.
2) Top panel clips with main area.

***
Confirmed your problem with IE9 and it is fixed using Compatibility Mode. Due to clipping issue it may be difficult to see the menu unless you scroll up all the way.

You're not using a script blocker, are you? I had the same problem with the Wikia sites until I stopped NoScript blocking something...

I've had the same problem for 3 months since I joined and haven't bothered to sort it yet. You need to be quick to select the option you want if you don't want to go straight to the profile page can be annoying sometimes

I tested it and it works just as he said!

I too recommend Firefox/Chrome over IE!
