On one of my surfing trips through the internetz I came upon a video talking about large caliber rounds. To my ehh "Surprise" I guess I found this rather LARGE round called the .950 JDJ which costs $40 a round and is refer to some as a "Range Queen" for fun. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.950_JDJ on wikipedia with some info about it and a picture of it next to an A&W rootbeer.
I can't help but smirk at this and wonder if this should have been in FONV instead of the .50 anti-material rifle. Anyone else think this rifle round has the "Overkill Potential" people speak of?
Quite. I really wouldn't like to fire one of those things; a .308 is bad enough. I suspect its long-range accuracy isn't great so it's probably more of a "bragging rights" type of design. Still, it is rather impressively excessive!
What is the point of a rifle that you cannot carry, and cannot fire? And even if you could shoulder fire the weapon, 50 bucks a shot??????? Holy smokes batman!

Just wait. One day, there will be soldiers large enough to carry such rifles with ease and the rifles will be semi-automatic, the bullets would have timers rigged to explode when a target is hit, and it'll be standard issue for these soldiers.
Both upper receivers mates to a standard M4 lower receiver.. semi automatic fire, a 10-15 rnd clip and a 300 to 400 grain projectile -that's almost an once of lead heading down range.

It breaks stuff.
Even from a rifle, those things must be pretty unpleasant to fire; considering even the Lee Enfield "Jungle Carbine" was the sort of thing people tended to avoid, though it only fired the fairly run-of-the-mill .303. I'm reminded of the insane Gabbett-Fairfax Mars pistols which were reputed to be the sort of things that caused the firer such consternation that it was hard to find anyone daft enough to volunteer to fire one a second time.

Well, according to that Wikipedia page, the rifle that fires that thing weighs about 100 pounds, so good luck firing that thing without a bipod or something to prop it up on.
I still kind of want to fire that thing just so I can say I did it, heh.
Same here after seeing the shell for that weapon i'm starting to think of collecting ammunition and that being my first starter round. Scariest thing i've heard is that there are bores even larger than that one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sghUXW6R_9g of the supposedly 10 largest calibers out there for cartridge fired weapons.
Just wondering what a 14.5x114mm Russian KPV bullet looks like since it's an anti-tank round.
