Today is my first day of unemployment since January of 2007 and I just got laid off from a 3 1/2 year job, so I'm quite out of practice in the whole "job search" thing. I'm lucky that I have friends who can give me an in on jobs.

My brother texted me this weekend saying that he has a job at EBGames that's on hold for him, but he said that he would be able to pass it off to me if I needed it (he already has a job).

When I was younger, I thought a job at EBGames would be cool, but it seems to be that jobs that deal with what you enjoy never seem to be as fun as it should be. I was just wondering if anyone here has worked there and could fill me in on their experience.

I like working with people (customers) directly, regardless of how stupid or ignorant they are (hey, good story later, right?) and at least I'll know what I'm talking about, unlike some of the people I know who work there.

A lot of the Gamestops around me typically have a high turnover rate which is something I always consider when searching for a new job.

If the job has a high turnover rate there's a reason and typically it isn't a good one. I don't know about the Gamestops around you but it seems to be fairly common for these types of businesses.

Also, you have to consider that you will be working on commission and they may have you fulfill a sales quota and that could effect your employment.

Commission?

I have a friend who's worked at a Gamestop for awhile now, she doesn't have to worry about commission or quotas.

Hmm may have been the now defunct Gamecrazy that did commissions then :shrug:

They always push the edge card or whatever they call it.
Only place I know od\f that still does commission is Frys.

I have noticed a lot of people have worked there over the years, but I just figured in a job like that, there isn't much stability. I'm not looking for anything super long term, so I wouldn't mind that. I have a friend who works there and I'm gonna talk to him about it too.

I know when I went in there to buy Portal 2 (for the midnight release later that night), the dude kept pushing other pre-orders on me like his life depended on it. Anything I mentioned that I might be interested in, he was like "Only $5, guy (yeah, he called me guy. Probably the only reason I didn't preorder). That won't hurt the bank. C'mon, guy". So I'm assuming the Edge cards and preorders are taken into account every month/week or whatever, but that's fine. I don't think it's commission, but I can find out from my friend for sure.

For sure the salary employees of Gamestop/EB are getting comission/bonus and I would be surprised if those salaried managers werent able to push over their comissionss and bonuses to their hourly waged employees if they wanted to.

I remember last year I was working for this company that had me close to an EB. So, naturally I got to know the employees there. One day I was in early when they opened and I was talkin to the then current manager and we had the usual hi hows it going greeting/convo

Me: Hey, hows it going

Him: You know, same old

Me: Yeah huh, living the dream, working in a video game store

Him: *smile & laughs*

Next week diddnt see him there at all, never saw him there since. He musta quit.
