Music Making

Post » Thu Aug 18, 2011 9:22 am

Lately I've been very interested in making my own music. Nothing acoustic, but techno and house-type stuff. The most experience I've had with making my own music is GarageBand at school. Anyone here make their own stuff, if so how did you get into it? And where should I start with making my own music?

My friend makes some good stuff, and he uses FL Studio. Perhaps look into getting it? There's a trial version so you can see if you like it first. I made some beats on it a while back, and it's fairly easy and user friendly. :)

To actually make electronic music, I would suggest listening to a bunch of songs, but to anolyze them, not enjoy them. Notice how there are different segments; drops, etc. Then try to emulate the basic formula these types of songs run on. If all else fails, just go with what sounds good! :D

GarageBand's studio version - Logic Studio (iirc) is very good (or so I've heard, I've only messed with GarageBand). You can obviously use pre recorded loops but of course it's great having a proper electric keyboard and a good drum machine. These can be quite expensive but when you mix those, record your own stuff and then mix it with some loops you can really get some awesome stuff

Now in FL studio, is there some demo samples I can dink around with, or do I need to butcher some songs from itunes?
