Cross-Game Roleplaying

Post » Thu Aug 25, 2011 11:21 pm

So I always roleplay more or less the same character in every RPG I play, an archer/ranger/hunter with some melee and magic. I usually play as an elf. The origin of this character is in The Elder Scrolls. And sometimes I notice that parts of the lore in a fantasy universe has an equivalent in another universe. I could go on all day about similarities in Fable and The Elder Scrolls lore. You heard right, Fable and Elder Scrolls. (Let the flaming begin :flamethrower: )

I have taken this concept to a whole new level, too. I have roleplayed my elven ranger in several first person shooters, MMOs and even in pokemon games. I want to know if you have ever done the same and what you think of my concept. And in addition, do you know any RPGs that have lore similarities with The Elder Scrolls where I can continue to develop my elven ranger ?

Edit: I have to point out that not every cross-game roleplay counts towards my character's "official storyline". I am currently playing the same character in Fable 3, and as you know, the time period in TES and Fable 3 are miles apart, and therefore its is too hard for me to add this playthrough to his official story because it too different from TES. However, playing through Fable 1 was totally different and way more similar to TES, and therefore it counts towards the "official storyline".

Dragon Age would be a good place to continue with your cross RPing dream. But to answer the question, no I don't cross-game roleplay. Sometimes I may play similar characters, but more often than not they're different enough that I don't consider them to be a single entity, as it were. Besides, doesn't cross-game RPing, sort of, you know, defy the whole idea of RPing, because you can't actually be in more than one world. Or can you . . .

Yup, i do that too. I have three characters that i play with in pretty much every game that allows some form of character customisation.

These two are of my "assassin" character: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197988732882/screenshot/596946065217172877?tab=public http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197988732882/screenshot/595819536945528317/?tab=public.

These three are my of "battlemage" character, because Energy Weapons = sci-fi magic :hehe: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197988732882/screenshot/596936567715578258/?tab=public http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197988732882/screenshot/596936567712274912/?tab=public http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197988732882/screenshot/595807815426868200/?tab=public

The third character is a "tank" type i do't play much, which is why i don't even have a screenshot  Also played them in DA:Origins, both Mass Effects and both NWNs.

I play Fable as if Albion (the Fable world) actually is the province of High Rock i TES, which is where my character spent his childhood. I tried to do the exact same thing with DA:O, but that was a complete failure.

I really don't see how a feudal europe expy populated by half-human mongrels could be similar enough to a vaguely british-like adventure-land to justify that. Now, what I could understand is rping that Fable is the far future of the Black and white universe, and pretending that one your B&W villagers is the ancestor of the first Archon. (whatever his name was, I don't remember)

Yeah, I do the same thing too and think of increasingly preposterous back-stories for why I get to re-use the same character in multiple games. It seems to be less effort to think of some contrived excuse than it does to think of a new character. So a misguided attempt by the Mages Guild to recreate the lost Propylon technology can cover a multitude of sins as far as my character appearing in other worlds/universes/whatever is concerned (whether or not it's especially convincing), whereas getting her from FO3's wasteland to New Vegas is more easily explained by getting drunk at a Vault-themed party and passing out in a sleeping pod which is later bought by Sarah Weintraub for her hotel.

I suppose it helps that I need less convincing than other people might. :hehe:
