Bots are better than ever

Post » Fri Aug 26, 2011 5:08 am

I was playing BRINK last night for the first time in a week or two and noticed that the bots, at least in campaign mode, now help to complete objectives. It was a pleasant surprise. I think SD is doing a really good job, lately, to get the bots playing more like real players.

I want to finally give SD some credit on doing some good work on the game. It would have been nice to have everything functioning better then beta perfomance, at launch though. I still cant help but think how much better things would have been with a working game at launch. I hope you guys learned a valuable lesson and NEVER launch a game, in that state again.

You should play F.E.A.R., dude, that game has the best bots I have ever seen. They don't even feel cheap when they kick your butt.

But, did they update Brink again, 'cause if so I'll have to check out these new bot behaviors for myself...

Oh, well, I was playing on hard mode. But, they were surprisingly good. They flanked me properly, tossed grenades at me when I tried to puss out and hide, and really seemed to know what they were doing. And they never, ever, cheaply aim-botted me like they do in Brink. (My biggest problem.)

F.3.A.R.'s bots are good too, but I can't honestly say much on their tactics 'cause my co-op sessions was filled with teh lulz.

This is a big problem with practically every game anymore. With pressure from fans to get games released ASAP and the ability to patch and update games through a simple download, they release games ASAP as fans want and work the bugs out as they go. Then the fans cry about these companies being "no good" when it was the pressure by them making them look bad. So basically its not the companies that release games "unfinished" or with bugs, its from the pressure from the community for quick releases.

I remember a game was what it was release day, no patches or upgrades... it is what it is out of the package.

Not so much the fans putting the pressure on, its more of a pressure for the developer (Splash Damage) to release by a certain release date usually set by the company in question (Bethesda In this case I think.)

I may have that the wrong way 'round but I hope you get the point.

Have youplayed counter strike source.
If the bot doesn't get stuck, it's a very good bot.
