I finally got a job. Yeah

Post » Mon Aug 29, 2011 6:23 pm

Well after 2 years of waiting and getting hardly no replies back from sending my resumes, it finally paid off. I know I am not alone here, after reading numerous posts about people not being able to find a job just like me.

All I wanted to say, is please don't be discouraged. It took me over 2 years, but it finally happend. Yes it's only temporary, but hopefully will become permanent, it does take time. Before I thought it would be 6 months, but it can take a while. So please keep sending those resumes. The only repsonses I got back were, Thank you we recieved your Resume, we will keep it on file and not hearing from them afterwards. Just keep trying, keep sending those resumes.

I hope this can give some hope to some people, since I know I was getting discouraged big time. Just like to hope to give some hope to others.

Congrats Davor. Yeah, sometimes it takes luck and patience and just timing. I hope it becomes permanent and that you like the job. :)

Not to rain on your parade but getting a job as a part time holiday employee is easy. They will pretty much take anyone. Chances of making it to perm employee is really diffiicult. You better give it 110% on everything you do or you will be dropped, prob even before the holidays are over.

I remember I had a seasonal position and gave it my best, but I was still fired before I was even suppose to be, most likely because black friday was over.

I've been wanting to get a job, but I'm not very aggressive. I sent one application to McDonald's and got rejected. That pretty much just shattered all my hopes. If I can't get a job at Mickey D's, what would my odds be anywhere else?

I don't understand why everyone feels like they are so important that Mcdonald's would jump at the chance to hire them. Your odds of getting a job are terrible if you only submit one application.

my job was seasonal, but I work so hard that I am pretty much irreplaceable, so much so that I know they won't promote me now, since they don't want to loose a low position personel that they would have trouble replacing with some one that works as hard.

but my situation is not how it is every where I suppose.

...because McDonald's does jump at the change to hire people? Where I live they are ALWAYS hiring, and there are always stoners being fired.

You didnt so much rain on his parade as stand on the clouds above urinating on all the floats, balloons and wee children. :glare:

Anyway congratulations Davor. Even if its only temporary its a good place to start :)

My father has a MD in Auto Engineering and he can't find a job. It's kind of sad.

yeah, but they are usually looking for part timers. in fact I had the same happen to me, I applied to mcdonalds and got rejected but then applied at a hardware store and was hired in literally a week because they desperately needed a full time person (because many people work more than one job these days so full time applicants are kind of rare as it turns out). glad I got rejected by mcdonalds

@Vel all the people I know who have diplomas or went to college either cannot get a job in their field or work at a grocery store.

I applied to Mcdonalds once, and during the interview about 5 minutes in, he just closed his clipbloard and said "I'm not going to hire you." I said why not, and he said, "You are a little too overqualified for us. As soon as something better comes along, you'll just leave." I kind of just looked at him.
He was right..but still.

Two years is time I don't have, unfortunately. Not if I want to get out of this house, to my girlfriend, get a computer, etc. If I have to wait two years, I fear for my mental health. That is not an exaggeration, either. I'm already close to my breaking point and the depression's coming in harder than Irene.

I doubt a temp position is going to require a resume.

The San Diego Zoo required a resume when I worked there, and yeah, they dropped me after the summer.

It's still not a bad idea to bring one in. Makes you look better to the employer.
