I am starting to have doubts about Rage..

Let me start by saying that I am a long time fan of id and everything they have done. At first, I was very excited about this game and planned on buying it on release as a gift for my brother. But now... I'm not so sure.

After watching the newest videos of the designers talking about the game, I was extremely unimpressed. I'm not usually one to judge a game that I haven't played yet, but if those are the best things Rage has to offer... wow. Seriously, most of the footage was just enemies getting shot in the head from a rifle, enemies getting shot with shotguns, and the same four or five different environments. At one point, someone on the dev team actually said something along the lines of "your arsenal will grow as you progress through the game." Wow! For real?! Also, it was sly how they didn't mention that there was no actual multiplayer shooter combat, but instead vehicle only combat. If you're making a game that looks so generic, why not just throw in the generic mode that has become a staple of modern games? Especially when you basically invented and perfected it?!

I hope that there is more to the game, and that they are leaving a lot out for surprise, but I kind of doubt that. Maybe it's just me, but this reminds me of Wolfenstein or Doom with 60FPS and very good visuals. As for my brother's gift, I'm now thinking Dead Island or Arkham City.

Also, sorry if there have been other topics like this as I have been on the Skyrim forums a lot more.

there's seriously no chance rage can compete with call of duty. and rage is not multiplayer focused game anyway. they even originally planned not to include any multiplayer modes.

Thing is, multiplayer takes up a lot of space. Why do you think games like DOOM 3 or HALO where so short? If Rage hade Multiplayer I can safly say that the game would not be Open World and have less quests. It comes down to what type of game you want:

1. A stunning Multiplayer game with a short Storymode.
2. A Open World story game with good graphics and lots of quests.

There are a reasons why Fallout and Elder Scrolls doesn't have multiplayer. It's not because the devs hate Multiplayer, it's because they want the singelplayer to be as good as it can be.

Hey dude...To each his own.........I for one am geeked about this game. I love this type of game. Open world, FPS, RPG elements, looting, talking to characters, exploring.......This is going to be the Ultimate "my type of game." Sorry you're turned off so much by this game. ID Software has a history of being a bit tight lipped about their upcoming titles. They don't want to reveal every single thing about the game. Just a taste of it. There's so much to this game other than run and gun. I hope in the upcoming weeks before its release, you see something that makes you like it, cause I think this game is going to be awesome.

Dude I swear...this game better have like 600 hours of gameplay. That's what a great MP game brings to the table. If it only has 40 hours of gameplay then they should have included a MP mode. Also....this is an id game. I expect a MP FPS portion. Fallout and Elder Scrolls were not made by the creators of the genre! The creators of the best FPS games of all time. Not even a good comparison bro.

I don't think your not getting what I'm saying. Who makes the game doesn't mather. id can't make miracles. They can make a great Multiplayer game with an ok short singelplayer that is just about fallowing a road shooting enemys or they can make a great big open world Singelplayer game. But they can't make a big open world singelplayer game with a great big multiplayer in the mix because there is not space for it.

We could get a RAGE that has a short linar non-open world singelplayer and a great big Multiplayer or we can get RAGE as a big open world game filled with quests and 40 hours of gameplay.

It all comes down to what type of player you are. I know a guy who just cares about Multiplayer and he doesn't care about Singelplayer at all. He buys CoD for the Multiplayer and thinks that the Singeplayer part is waist of space. He gets much ut of the Multiplayer but finds the singelplayer boring. He would not like this game.
But I love Singelplayer and doesn't care about Multiplayer. For me this game looks great and I will probobly spend up towards 100 hours playing it but I find Multiplayer boring and probobly would only test it once if they had it.

And also, Multiplayer doesn't make the FPS. This is still an id FPS. And just beccause DOOM and QUAKE got Multiplayer doesn't mean that all is games have to have it. RAGE is a new game. If this was DOOM 4, then I could agree with the complaint.
As for "creators of the best FPS games of all time", it depends on who you ask because alot of people say thats Bungie with their epic HALO-series, on Singelplayer and Multiplayer. HALO 2 was the most played Multiplayer game in the world before M$ pulled the plug.
