Best Space/Sci-Fi RTS Type Game

Post » Wed Aug 31, 2011 2:14 am

HI, I want some sort of galactic conquest game :D. Not too bothered about multi-player, and I'd like to to have graphics that are fairly good, but don't have to be amazing. I really enjoy the Total War games, so I wouldn't mind something along those lines. Any suggestions/recommendations??

It's not a conquest game exactly, but you should play the classic "Homeworld". A great game with a memorable soundtrack as well.

One of my favs growing up was the original Masters of Orion, but it's probably quite dated by now. Not sure if it's even possible to run on modern PCs.

Wow, that seems to be literally exactly what I'm looking for.

Homeworld and Sins of a Solar Empire i can't recommend enough. Sins is a mix between RTS and 4x strategy, so if GalCiv seems too slow and/or complicated, try that one. Also i've heard good things about Sword of the Stars.

I think I and II are on GoG as a package deal for 9.99

Starcraft 1 or 2, for a combat fix. It's more of a strategy game as in you have to take the opponent down or complete any objective with certain units. There is a campaign, and you can play against an A.I., there is also a large multiplayer base, but it's not required. The graphics are pretty good, and it's probably on sale since it's been out for a while.

However, you will be giving money to MicroTransActivision and Blizzard.

Sins of a Solar Empire. It's 4x, has great graphics, and has been greatly improved by expansions.

Which version do I get?? The http://www.amazon.co.uk/Empire-Galactic-Civilizations-2-PC/dp/B000XJ4URW/ref=sr_1_4?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1314719011&sr=1-4, the http://www.amazon.co.uk/Galactic-Civilizations-Ultimate-PC-CD/dp/B001EEDF7G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314719004&sr=8-1 or http://www.amazon.co.uk/Galactic-Civilizations-Endless-Universe-PC/dp/B001DFZ5VU/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1314719011&sr=1-2?? Please don't say Endless Universe as it's 3 times the price and appears to offer less! I'm guessing go for the Ultimate Edition?

EDIT: Sorry for the double post :(

But the ultimate edition is already £9.95. Or are you saying buy Endless Universe and just wait it out??

Universe at War: Earth Assault is a pretty good RTS in the same vein as Starcraft 2(which is also great). UAW:EA is pretty cheap on Steam, and the graphics are pretty 'aight.

Maybe "EVE Online" is a possibility, though I've never played it. It has a famously steep learning-curve though.

Sins of a Solar Empire is great.

For a bit more of a "light" RTS you can always go with Star Wars: Empire at War
