Looks kind of interesting. I had never heard of it before this post. Does anyone have an opinion on the gameplay/story of the original?

Its a MOO type (or 4X), although you probably cant tell from the vid (since most MOO types have turn based, or non visual battles). I'm a fan of Galactic Civ, so when I get my PC next month, Im sure I'll pick this up.

Games like this excel when there's more than just a few races to choose from, and SOS II will have six races, opposed to SOS I's four races.

The vid reminds me of Galactic Civilization II: Dread Lords expansion.

It will also have 2 expansions as well adding 2 more races and potentially expanded form of ground combat, but at the moment all Im interested in is getting my ass handed to me by space dolphins XD

Ever play Galactic Civ II Dread Lords? there was a minor race called the Santhi. The Santhi were a sentient squirrel race that always started [censored] with the major factions and got wiped out. It was fun getting your Diplomacy up so you could save the poor Santhi Squirrel people.

Ha really? I never came across that race to be honest, interesting I'd let them burn if they are that abrasive for their size XD. I'm a territorial player, absolutely hated when other races started swooping into my system and sappin mah potential colonies, I usually get them back with Influence, which is one of the things I enjoyed about GalCiv crippling empires without firing a shot.

I enjoyed setting up Colonies, placing structures, Mining bases, even designing your own ships, fell in love with the series but affter a time the combat to me was lacking, and since I did alot of auto resolve :( I tired of it, I loved getting diplomatically flanked in the face by the AI though :D

My Hopes is Sots2 increases on the Planatry/Diplomacy management side of things its Combat is excellent and only seems to have gotten better, Im currently on a 500 turn game, where a faction that splintered off of my empire and joined another got curbstomped by an Artificial intelligence Gone Mad, I erased it Bombed all the planets into into hostile conditions/strip mined ALLL the worlds and kept the capital as a trophy.

unfortunately the Liir didnt appreciate my Brazen killing and dropped the Alliance, Humans are kicking the Hivers in the face while facing off 2 Zuul empires and the Feathered Snakes are still stuck in Fission age where everyone else is Fusion (I'm Antimatter :D)

Yeah, I hate when you get your territory staked out in GalCiv, only for another race to take the smaller planet in your system, that you didnt even worry about. Cant count the times another race took Mars, while I was out looking for 12's and 13's, planet wise.

Never played the first in the Sots1, I know my PC wouldnt run it. Hell, my PC crashes during GalCiv II (last game I could even play on this PC). Looking forward to my new PC and getting back into the strategy game arena.

ugh I know what you mean, it utterly svcks having a putt putt equivilant of a PC and all these sixy games are coming out that you can't even start. thankfully I just got a new laptop for free(!!!!!) and its running circles around everything from Witcher 2, to Brink, ME2 and 1, Shogun 2 etc et. I now await for Skyrim, Sots 2, X-Rebirth (its going the same fing route as Oblivion I swear) and ME 3

I liked the 1st but it was a bit too combat oriented for my tastes (e.g I seriously love Master of Orion man).

The graphics and design are  tho'

Thanx bro.

Happy to oblige, they are the last reletively large bastion aside from Stardock making Space empire games, simple to say from my experience Sots Blows the heck out of Sins, and Sots2 will most likely warp time and space with its awesomenosity, its sad few (from my view point) know about the game now turned series.

So, I never played SoTS I, obviously couldn't because my PC svcks, but I was reading the story and lore/background info from the first, and Im really liking it. The depth of back story is better and deeper than a GalCiv for instance, and is akin to the original Mass Effect IMO. Gotta love the Liir from what Im hearing and the giant elders. Telepathic, pacifist, space Whales FTW.
