Looking for a good recording program for desktop (gaming)

Post » Tue Sep 20, 2011 9:50 pm

I do a lot of video recording while playing WoW and I make a lot of WoW movies/machinima, but I'd like to take my skills further and do some Morrowind recording/editing, so I need a program that works on PC also. I use ScreenFlow for my Mac but I'm going to be playing in a Windows partition.

Any good programs that I can use that are free? It doesn't matter if it has an editing program included, I can edit the video in another program, I just need something to capture my desktop as I play the game.

Fraps is probably the most used and it's awesome. You can download the limited version (can't save in all files formats and can only do 30 seconds iirc, clips). That said the full/unlocked version is only 27 euros and it's worth it, as far as I'm concerned

Lol, 30 seconds.
I'm not really trying to pay anything right now, a little short on cash. Surely there must be a free program to do this?

I was googling about it the other day, like "Fraps alternatives" or something. I actually found one which seemed pretty good but I forgot it's name

My best advice is to google it :P

Ok so I broke down and got FRAPS.
Very nice quality but one problem: the file sizes are freaking INSANE. I recorded for like 1 minute and it was 2 freaking gigs. Shouldn't it compress it after recording? That's what ScreenFlow on my Mac does.

If not, how can I compress these beast? I don't really know how to do that.
