I have an on-off relationship with garden forks after sticking one right through my foot. It wasn't especially painful, but it was quite gruesome.

Apparently some people really objected to forks back in mediaeval times, thinking them the work of the Devil or some such: eating with spoons was much more wholesome.

I'm kind of ambivalent about correcting the "mediaeval tines" typo.

as opposed to....spoons? I don't know, i like forks...like the way they feel in my hand...i don't know what else to say
