Is Windows Movie Maker really this atrocious?

Post » Wed Sep 28, 2011 10:04 am

I'm doing an LP on a version of windows that's partitioned on my Mac. So I have to record using FRAPS instead of my usual amazing Mac recording software.

So, when I record using fraps, it's high quality, but when I put the files through windows movie maker and export (I don't even think it even exports) and save to my desktop, the file is..lol. Just lol. I'm not even going to say what quality it is.

My question is, how on Earth does 1900x1200 HD footage get compressed into that? Why does windows movie maker make it so the quality is absurdly low, it's like 240 on youtube from a MOBILE DEVICE quality bad. I mean, absurd. And the worst part is, I can't for the life of me figure out how to change this.

So that's my question; CAN you change this? I saw like 2 options, one was Regular, one was *lol* High Quality Video. I clicked that, and I get rubbish. :banghead:

I'm sorry. I guess I'm just so frustrated with this entire ordeal. I've been trying to get this LP started for over 2 weeks now and I just can't seem to get it right. I can't figure out how to make Audacity record my voice instead of the in game music when playing MW, and my original plan of just using an external HD to transport the movie files to my Mac side and then editing the whole thing via iMovie, which is amazing, but nah, that didn't work. Upon moving the files from windows to Mac, the files get all screwed up, the frames freeze constantly while the music still plays, and iMovie just doesn't even recognize the filetype. Ugh.

So plan B, which is what I'm trying to do now, which is record Audacity on a laptop while playing MW and frapsing it, then putting the files together through Windows Movie Maker, and what do I get? Atrocious quality and I can't change it.

Don't use WMM. I think that was the general consensus from your last thread too.

since you only did the save settings for amateurs i'd say it's your fault, windows movie maker has a far greater selection of save quality than just low and high

in fact, you can even select a desired video file size

I'd consider myself more than an amateur movie maker, I've made documentaries and I make WoW videos that have thousands of views on youtube, I just don't know how to use such low end programs like WMM. I generally use iMovie and Final Cut. But that's on a different Mac.

And if I can't use WMM, what am I supposed to use? Like I said in my OP, when I put the files on my mac, the image starts and stops and freezes and flutters constantly like it's having a seizure, yet the timer is going and the music is still playing.
