Gaming PC hookup to TV

Post » Mon Oct 03, 2011 9:31 pm

So every now and then I start to feel like I've made a mistake choosing consoles over the PC. I have an Xbox360 and a PS3, but what's really bothering me is how the graphics and overall gameplay seem to be so much better on computers, for most every game. Especially Battlefield 3. I will be getting it for PS3, but sometimes I wonder if I should just sell both consoles and get a gaming PC and hook it up to my HDTV.

Any thoughts?

Do it. Current gen consoles are getting pretty close to being replaced, and PC gaming has seen quite a resurgence lately, so it's a pretty good time to make the switch.

The only problem is getting the mouse and keyboard comfortable, so you might keep one of your controllers (I think PS3 controllers work, just without as much support as Xbox controllers) or get some other kind of controller so that you can play more easily from your couch.

I might. I have like $1200 stocked up at my bank (which is alot for me, a 15 year-old). But then again I have alot of friends on both consoles.

I also think that Live and PSN are the best social gaming networks out there. Steam isn't that good.

But are there any PC networks like PSN and Live that aren't Steam?

Anyway, I might just sell alot of my old videogames and stuff. I don't really want to totally rid of the consoles.

Do you have a friend with a PC that can play games at 1920x1080 or higher res?

It might be easier to make your decision after viewing the difference firsthand.

There's Windows live, which is just Xbox live really, but I still think Steam is pretty damn good, I mean, I have brought more games on steam then I'll ever be able to play, and I probably spent less than the cost of a new release.

I have a friend with a computer that can max out ANY and ALL games ever made, even Arma II, which is pretty demanding. I really enjoyed The Witcher 2 on his PC and the graphics were stunning, although I'd still like it more on a TV. Is 1080p a pretty good resolution? Because since that's the highest for an HDTV, I'd assume it's high for a PC as well.

@Solid_Moose,
Steam is alright, and its sales are amazing, but the actual social gaming experience pales in comparison to Live and PSN, which is why I'd rather use something else other than it.

I can't really see what's different TBH, it's got pretty much all the same features.

Well okay then. I'm going to sell alot of my crap (not my actual poop, mind you) to make some extra money and we'll see how it goes.

Good idea. Hehe :hehe:

But anyway, like I was saying, is 1080p the highest resolution for a PC?
