How do I connect my 360 console to X-box Live ?

Post » Tue Oct 04, 2011 12:21 am

I pushed my T.V into this room hooked my console up to it (it works fine) so I then plug the cable that usaully runs between the Desktop and the modem into my 360 (disconnects the computer...)

when I click configure network after failure to connect my status says "network: unknown Internet: unknown Xbox Live:Unknown"

then on the configure network screen says my ip settign is automatic gives me an ip address then a subnet mask and a gateway and I have no idea what most fo those things are ecept for IP which can be used to find me or soemthign like that

I just want to get an avatar update so i can equip my red dead redemption awards then go through my game collection and see if any of them have any Free DLC or unlockable items

why couldnt I just plug my console in and be connected like I could when I had my co-op at "Computer Repair Center"

also the second I unplugged the ethernet cable from my 360 all the numbers changed to 0 and the wired tab no longer had a checkmark in the corner when i press b to exit the menues and go back to teh dash board

Turn off the 360 while it's still plugged into the modem.
Then power cycling the modem. Meaning unplug it for 10 seconds then plug it back in.
Turn on 360 and see what happens.

I use to have this issue. I bought a router and that fixed it. I suggest getting one save you the trouble of having to disconnect your pc from your modem every time.

I second the router purchase suggestion. It also puts a firewall between you and the internet! Modems do not.

What kind of router do you have? Some of them are not compatible with the XBox, and you may have to buy a router that is compatible.

Try a Google search with the make and model number of your router and "XBox Live." That may answer your question, and if it is incompatible, you may be able to find a firmware update for the router that will allow the two to work together.

First things first, you need to powercycle your modem. (You need to anytime you disconnect it from something and connect it to something else.)
