I know it's not a particularly big decision, but I need to buy a USB memory stick and just wondered, is it worth buying a branded one? Some of them are around ￡25, whereas I can get one the same size for about ￡5. Is there really going to be that much difference between them?

And if anyone has one they particularly like, let me know please. I just want to get one ordered tonight

There is a difference between different USB sticks, that difference being their read/write speeds. Some USB sticks are super-slow and of cheap quality, other's are not.

If I'm just going to be transferring small files is it then worth forking over a bit more cash? I don't mind paying a bit more for anything as long as it's worth the money.

2GB would work fine.

I hear lots of bad things about PNY, so I'd avoid those.

Currently using a Kingston. 20 MB/s write and 25 read, so I'm happy with it. 8 GB and got it for $10, no idea how that is in today's prices.

I wouldn't get a USB less than 8 GB anymore. Especially in the case of a 2 GB, you might as well just use the cloud through services like Dropbox unless you're going to use it a lot with offline computers. You may not use the capacity now, but it'll come in handy in certain circumstances and you'll use it more in the future.

Its very good and many people seem to be satisfied with them. I use them "All" the time. Especially with offline computers.

I use a 16gb TDK. I got it really cheap and I'm happy with it.
