Why no deathmatch?

Post » Tue Oct 04, 2011 9:47 am

I dont get why they didnt add a deathmatch mode. I mean dont get me wrong, the car races and death fights look pretty fun. But I would much rather have a (first person) Deathmatch or team deathmatch mode. Just seems kind of dumb. It would have added loads more hours of play. Your thoughts?

I get why id did this...Everyone plays COD or BF and unless you devote most of your resources to compete with them in that Arena--why bother. Those games focus on MP and the single player campaign is much shorter.
Honestly if RAGE had traditional DM, people would play it for how long before they just went back to play the 2 games I just mentioned. At least with Vehicle combat it's something NEW and probably has a much better chance of having a loyal and lasting fanbase.

Until id makes a multiplayer focused DM (which I doubt), military shooters will dominate in that space. A FPS MMO would be kinda neat but I doubt id ever goes that direction. I think that is one frontier that has not been compelling enough...FPS MMO

Couldn't agree more.

id INVENTED DM and they used it in two franchises. If they want to try something new, I say more power to them.

I agree completely but it still would have been awesome to have a DM mode, mostly because I was hoping to make levels for it :)

DM is old and outdated. They want to try something new so they can help grow the industry, this should be praised even if they end up failing. At least they are trying to innovate.

Deathmatch is not outdated, its just the current trend of games are tactical and revolve around 'catch the Muslim terrorist' thing, which deathmatch does not fit into.
Claiming deathmatch is outdated is like saying FPS games are outdated.

Deathmatch should have been included to cater for those that enjoy deathmatch. If people don't want to play it, then they don't have to. This FPS is degenerate. No deathmatch will be a deal breaker for many, especially those that are 25-35yo, which are probably majority of iD Software fans..

No deathmatch to me tells me Betheseda - "Please don't buy our game"
