Love it! run's great here! :)

Reviews are in, and I found immediately about 30 reviews that give the game 9/10's, 9.5/10's, 4/10, and 4.5/10's, so seemed pretty great to me! I couldn't really find anything lower than a 8.5/10, so anything less would be few and far between.

Started up this morning after unlock and decrypt on steam...

Run's great, smooth, nice... a couple of graphics glitches that I've tweak with just some small effort... first the texture popin.. wasn't too terrible when I started, but I've reduced it to almost nothing. My only other gripe? console-res texture, but I knew this buying the game... They'd had been saying "hey.. btw, all versions use the same textures as of now, PC to get models and textures updates soon". So no biggie, still looks pretty good! I have no doubt iD will release the texture glitch fix within a short while anyway. Only other request would to be to add a advanced graphics options menu so i donthave to dig through console to find the tweaks :) It'll be a cold day in hell when iD software fails to fix their glitches... that i'm confident on.

Also, runs perfect on either my gamepad or mouse/keyboard, sound is top notch, AI is just mind blowing, and the gameplay is phenomenal. voice acting isn't too shabby, and all the content definetely delivers. The vehicles are awesome... I tried a bit of coop and vehicle MP... pretty intense, very well done! Story is usual post-apocalyptic story... nothing too complex, but fits the game allright. Weapons are awesome, and gun battles are intense... character animations are simply stunning!

I picked this up on 360 and PS3 as well... I'll give the game a 9.5/10 for the console versions, and a 9/10 for PC (when they get the texture problems fixed, I'll up pc to 9.5/10

very impressive job, id software! very well done indeed!

EXTRA INFO:

my specs:

intel i7 2600k @ stock speed
16GB of DDR3 ram
EVGA Geforce GTX580
Win7 Ultimate 64-bit

Here's the only real tweaks I've applied:

(1) downloaded the latest Nvidia beta drivers (285.xx)
(2) set RAGE.EXE in my steam folder to triple buffer on, vsync on via the nvidia control panel
(3) Make sure to turn on GPU transcoding in RAGE's option menu if you have a nvidia GTX400 or GTX500 series card... improves texture quality and such
(4) IF your getting alot of texture pop-in or screen tearing, try setting your video cards vsync options to on through you cards control panel, and also try disabling SLI and/or updating your video drivers.
(5) Some have reported random crashing on certain SLI configurations. Try disabling SLI. If your game still randomly grashes, once again, try updating your vid drivers... this seems to helping ALOT by updating with many issues.
(6)These are my launch settings (configured in Steam):

+ cvaradd g_fov 20 +set com_skipIntroVideo 1 + image_anisotropy 16 + image_usecompression 0

- change fov from default of 80 to 100
- disable intro vids
- improve texture sharpness over distance
- use higher quality textures

I've enabled the console so I can see settings, etc by editing my default.cfg and adding:

com_allowConsole 1

but you can also choose these methods:

Method 1) In Steam launch options add +set com_allowconsole 1

Method 2) Create a shortcut to Rage.exe and add +set com_allowconsole 1
Launch game from shortcut.

Method 3) Alternatively, you can add it to the default.cfg located in:
C:\Steam\steamapps\common\rage\base\default.cfg
Add at the very top set com_allowconsole 1
If you launch game directly from Steam console will now be enabled.

To drop down console in-game, press tilda (~) (default key mapping).

To view commands: listCmds

To view cvars: listCvars

Enter clear to erase the console window.

I've heard it's having the same problems on the 360 too.

Only a couple of reports, that I've seen but overall, it appears that the console versions have less problems, until the game is patched.

I'm not gonna lie... the console versions really shine here. The graphics are some of the best of any console game, and all the content and variety the game has to offer just delivers a pretty much unprecedented package to the console gamer. easily a 9.5 out of 10 or higher.

The PC version is the same... but it's obvious what iD software has done. They've focused all their efforts on tweaking it and optimizing it for console first, and will come back and really optimize it for PC second. Not that its unplayable right now... it most certainly is playable, and your going to get the exact same experience as the console guy, but wiht AA, mouse and keyboard, etc. The thing of it is, the PC guy is gonna have to wait a bit for some things the console guys don't have... hi-res textures, patches, tweaking, mods... That's all coming down the pipe. iD software always delivers. You boot up the PC version and it will feel and control like PC, but your going to feel graphically more like your playing a console... not always, but some of the time. As I said, thats because id software really wanted to make sure this game was up and running as best as it could on the primary gaming market right now... and the primary gmaing market, as it has been for several years, is the console market. More sales, more anti piracy measures more players as of current, and very specific hardware to develop for. That's a buisness move, and financial one. Who could blame them? They're not stupid. You go where the product is gonna get the biggest bang for release.

I'm a PC gamer more so than console, but i appreciate all systems available to me. Perhaps id software really wanted to explore the console market this time around... you know, they were doing almost straight PC games for 20+ years... maybe they just said, let's try something else for once. Let's make console our primary goal for this one. Does that mean they are favoring them over us? Absoultely not, maybe they just wanted a break and test that market for a change. And in that respect, they suceeded... the game will make the console gamer smile, and very proud of their 6 years old box, lol. Carmack and team really can work wonders on hardware and technology... when I see rage as good as it is running as well as it does on my PS3 or Xbox 360, even I have to sit down and say "christ, Carmack just never ceases to amaze me". But it's not just in the engine, the ENTIRE game really shines... from audio to gameplay to MP... just very well done.

And then I look at my PC version, and send a few moments tweaking it to my likings, smiling at my ultra smooth framerate, antialiasing, transcoding, mouse/keyboard control, and modding tools, and say "now this really does feel like a complete package". I can enjoy the benefits of the PC version over the console while I await some minor fixes and a hi-res texture fix (or pack). I enjoy it just as much as the console counterpart even while these things aren't released yet. And to me, it doesn't really matter if they do... but I know they will... iD has never let me down, and always true to their word.

You have to remember, Bethesda is just Publishing this game, Bethesda is actually developing Skyrim, other then the trademark bugs that usually happen, they are sure to deliver beatifully

I'm starting to think the texture issues aren't going to be fixed soon, it looks like PC's can't handle the large amount of data that has to be streamed in real time. Consoles can obviously do it, and they aimed for that. I think they did a bit of a gamble with megatextures and it doesn't work very well on PC. Even if this game flops horribly (which it won't, it's get 8-10 scores on review sites), I'll be looking forward both to fixes and Doom 4 which will either fix the problem or our PCs will be powerful enough to handle it. I'm not really that annoyed, I've been watching a ton of Carmack interviews and keynotes, and he specifically said PCs can't handle streaming megatextures as well as consoles, but it's the next big step and we'll have to wait for PCs to get rid of that bottleneck, because aside from that they're way way faster than console systems. I'm ready to play it even if it ends up having texture pop in (can't play it yet, UK), but I'll be a bit disappointed if it doesn't run at all or I get low framerates with no way to lower the details.

Well, alot of people are worried that iD wont come back and fix some the texture/graphics bugs in the PC version. That's complete horse sh*t. Of course they are. They always do. Hell, they even patched Quake 3 and Doom 3 a couple eyars back for Vista and Win 7 support i beleive with some point release. I mean, what developer does that? Come on - they make sure their stuff keeps on working and ALWAYS listens to their fan base requests. You jsut get a bunch of new age yippie "I WANT IT NOW!" sh*theads that don't know how to handle and keep their cool when they see a bug. I've been a PC gamer for years... the glitches in RAGE are NOTHING compared to 90% of the other games I've seen released this year, or years prior. Carmack was promising texture packs and graphics updates long before the game even shipped. I have every reason to beleive this is truth. That's even if you really need them... other than some minor fixes, I'm lovin' the game right now, all releases of it.

You have plenty of companies that make a multi-system release and just toss it out there, hoping it sells and works well on at least one system, and pretty much giving the finger to the systems it doesn't work well on. I see that all the time.

And lucky for us, Bethesda and iD software are not one of those companies. They've never abandoned their product, especially on PC. They make sure it works on all systems, and are quick to patch and fix it if it doesn't, and to your likings. They've always been this way, I don't see that changing now :)
