Shaving

I was going to post this in the beard thread in the Skyim section, but I figure it would do more good here in its own thread.

Recently I discovered a way to keep my razor as sharp as the day I bought it, practically indefinitely. I have a changeable razor and I normally go through a blade a week, but doing this I have been using the same blade for three weeks with no signs of it losing its edge.

Do this before each shave. Or after, or both. I just do it before.
1) Get an old pair of jeans
2) Run your razor along one leg about twenty times in one direction, flip your razor and do twenty going the opposite way.
3) Rinse your razor of any little pieces of denim.
4) Shave as you normally do.
5) Get a cup and place just enough rubbing alcohol so the blades are submerged.
6) Let razor sit in cup of alcohol while you take your shower, get morning coffee, or whatever.
7) Remove razor from cup and pat-dry the blades with a towel or washcloth. Store in your mirror cabinet or somewhere else where it is not out in the open.

VoilĂ ! Now you will pretty much never have to change your blade so long as you continue to do this. From reading online some people have been using the same blade for over a year.

Note: If your razor has that strip that turns white when you need to change it, the alcohol will completely destroy that and you will have to clean it off your razor. Not really a bid deal, and you only have to do that the first time.

How this works:

It is my understanding that the cross stitch denim of the jeans works like a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Razor_strop Sharpening your blade and getting rid of any nicks. The alcohol removes any water or dead skin left on the blade, both of which are not good for the life of your blade. Storing your razor not out in the open prevents the steam of the shower, i,e more water, getting on your blade and causing it to lose its edge.

1. Big pack of cheap disposable shaving razors.
2. Shave with one for a week.
3. Throw it away and use a new one.

Blade is always sharp then. :P

This is true, but I imagine you could buy a big pack of cheap disposable shaving razors, use what I posted, then the bag lasts you ten years :P

I found this quite interesting and just shows you learn something new every day.

I doubt i would have the patience to shave my jean legs 10 times in each direction every day, i`ll stick with my Bic disposable razors - 2 minute throwaway jobs ;)

Ha, it doesn't take much patience. Only a minute or so of your time. But to each their own. :foodndrink:

I initially started doing this as an experiment, but after I discovered it worked I just sort of kept going on. :P
