Xbox 720 confirmed?

Post » Thu Oct 06, 2011 12:28 am

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/10/05/xbox-720-logo-spotted-in-real-steel-trailer.aspx...

I personally think it is a joke, considering the 'time' the movie is in...

Thoughts?

I'm sure that Microsoft chose the film adaptation of Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots to unveil their next console.

Just an instance of clever product placement. The filmmakers needed ads that would make their set more believable and Microsoft wants to sell Xbox consoles.

Not sure why they would go down that road where the 360 itself meant anyone around the world can join in. Not sure exactly what 720 would mean? If they wind up with 720 that's fine by me. Honestly, I dont really care what they call it as long as its slim and powerful.

I was thinking also that MS must know that about the add in the movie so maybe there is something behind it.

I just read that on Game Informer, and considering even the article assumes it's a joke... I'm going to have to go with gag.

Onto the movie itself though... I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested in it. Makes me want to go back and play http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avpWOj0Cqv0

When a film insists on sticking adverts on every piece of blank space it can find, then they're obviously going to run out of real products to advertise and have to start inventing new ones.

It could be a gag. Though we do know there will be new consoles within a couple of years. It would seem xbox is taking Atari's cue and placing large numbers behind the name of their consoles. :P

I agree that it's a joke. And as the film is set in 2020 I think the '720' would be replaced by then!

I also doubt it will be called the 720. I'd hope Microsoft would show some imagination (yeah, I know it's Microsoft I'm talking about here!).

I did not even think about it like that! Now I'm so down for the X-box 720 :P

If it is called the 720, don't count on it being replaced by then. Just look at the 360's run. But yeah, probably just a joke.

Well, since the technology of the movie is giant fighting robots I assume it's a gag that the 360 is now the 720 as it's in the future.

The logo is the exact same, only the number is different. Way to penny pinch, Microsoft?
