Platform Wars....What's the Point?

Post » Fri Oct 07, 2011 9:51 am

Having viewed the various "PC is better than Console!!!" and vice versa arguments here. I would like to ask a small question.

Why does one have to be a "PC Gamer" or a "Console Gamer"? Believe it or not I use both. Yet the most hypocritical vitriol is spewed daily back and forth over one of the biggest non-issues of the day. Instead of discussing the merits of the game it is always "PC graphics are better therefore you svck because you play console!" or some version. I am sure that many out there can attest that it takes money to constantly update a system for each new game. I like the fact that all I have to do to play games on my Xbox is to put it in the disk tray and push start. I don't have to worry about my RAM, is it a quad core processor?, Video memory and etc. etc. etc.

Now I enjoy playing on my PC to. I have a 'heavily' modded Oblivion game that I have been playing forever and prefer playing Oblivion on my PC because of the Mods. I also enjoy the Total War series from Creative Assembly. But I will not take someone to task if they prefer the vanilla game on console. That's their preference. My way of playing the game doesn't HAVE to be their way in order for me to feel important in life.

And now that Skyrim is about to be unleashed the imaginary, and stupid, battle-lines have been drawn once again all over a forum. And I am certain I will get replies decrying my blasphemy at even the suggestion that a gamer can enjoy both platforms, but that's just the way I feel.

Peace!

Sincerely,
A Personal Console Gamer.

Like it or not there will always be elitists who will argue what is better than what. Both PC and consoles have pros and cons and as long as that is true then there will be war.

Hail, fellow enjoyer of both PC and console. :foodndrink:

I grew up playing games on both PC and console, though back in those days the PC had a monochrome monitor and the console was an NES. Good times were had by all no matter what my friends and I played on - there was no argument about which was better, it was all about having fun with the games we played. And I still feel that way. Nowadays, I play my PS2 once in a while because my PC gets most of my gaming time, but damn it's fun to head over and play Halo with friends on their XBox 360.

I see no point in trying to belittle someone else about where they choose to play their games. Are we not all gamers? And in this forum, are we not all Elder Scrolls fans?

Also: kudos for the Thor avatar and the Norse name. As one who wears a silver Mjollnir amulet on a daily basis, I heartily approve. :hehe:

They only represent around 15% of the gamer community and yet their the most annoying people, console wars will always occur and its hard to stay neutral when some annoying pc gamer or console gamer starts attacking all of those people who play that platform

I'm personally a pc gamer who tries to stay neutral also luckily platform wars on the forum is against the rules

And like it or not, no amount of PC elitism or Console elitism is going to change how games are developed or what system is prioritized when making a game. Companies cater towards the larger market (consoles), not everyone has a wad of money in their wallet to go and spend on a high end gaming PC. A lot of PC gamers really think highly of themselves because they have a good PC and feel it's necessary to bash people who prefer consoles (notice I said 'a lot', not 'all').

I pre-ordered this for my Xbox 360. Thus, the 360 are better then all of the three. :toughninja:
Also I cannot afford a greater PC for gaming :sadvaultboy:

What svcks is, as long as we have a choice between consoles and PC, these things will always be happening. I've noticed it much more during this generation though

I'm for gaming on both platforms. However, I don't have a gaming PC. The only games I have on my computer right now are Arena and Daggerfall. I play Morrowind on Xbox, Oblivion on Xbox 360, and I'll be playing Skyrim on the 360 as well. I honestly see no need for console vs pc wars, and nothing gets accomplished from them.
