RAGE PC 5.1 audio and race AI questions?

Are those of you with the PC version having problems with no center channel audio for 5.1 like I am? I couldn't find any such talk in this forum after searching a bit, but I DID find someone having such problems with the game via a Google search. I managed to get the console to work, and looked through all the Cvars, but none of them that apply to sound seem to be for a stereo vs 5.1 setting. Thus one would assume the game auto detects your sound device and it's number of channels, but it's not doing it correctly in my case. I did find one Cvar related to sound called "s_device", and am pondering if it would manually set the type of sound device (including # of channels), but I'm guessing it's only a hardware vs software support selection.

On races I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the race difficulty scales with the difficulty mode you play on? I'm starting out on a lower difficulty level just to get to know the game well before tackling the higher ones, and the races are far too easy. I did find a Cvar related to race difficulty called "vai_race_difficulty", so I'm thinking even if it doesn't scale to the difficulty mode you're on, it can probably be set manually with that command.

So far I have mixed emotions about command use in this game. I've successfully used the ones being mentioned for graphics tweaks via a config file I created, but in testing a couple commands I saw in the game console's Cvarlist, I got no results using the console or the config file. The ones I tested were "pm_thirdperson" for 3rd person perspective, and "pm_vehicleFreeCam" to see if I could look with mouse while driving.

I have an Xbox 360 and I too do *not* have center channel audio. WTH! I've verified it's not a problem with the Xbox as the Halo Surround test works fine. It would seem Rage just does not have a center channel OR most things you would normally hear center (voice/dialog) has been coded to come out of the left/right channels instead.

I don't know but it's bugging the heck out of me!!!
