Who Cares?

Hello everyone! As we all know everyone is going mad over the low res textures and the texture pop-ins. Since when did we start to care if a game has bad graphics, even though they play very well and are loads of fun. In the days of the super Nintendo and Sega, no one cared if the game looked like nothing but a bunch of pixels. I'm tired of all the threads bashing this game just because it has texture issues. WHO CARES! All that matters is that the game plays great and is a lot of fun to enjoy. I encourage those that are thinking about getting this game to forget about the texture issues and just go out and buy it. This game is a work of art!

Simplest way I can explain it to you is this:

peoples' standards advance with time and technological advancement. What we were satisfied with in the past is different from what we expect now. Generally I think that's a good thing, it's progress.

But a very important distinction needs to be made, even in 2011 a person might load up a flash game on a website, or some little game on their phone, or Nintendo DS... or even bust out and dust off an old console like NES. They are still completely willing and able to enjoy those games on their own terms, and their graphical expectations match up with what the game offers, and there is no incongruity.

The problem arises when a game is marketed one way, by a company KNOWN for pushing the technological envelope, and then the "finished" product turns out to fall far short for exactly the same demographic (PC users) who care most about that.

When I first got Toe Jam and Earl on my Sega Genesis I was amazed at the 'open world'ness' of the game and I recall thinking 'These are some of the best graphics ever!' And the gameplay was pretty awesome too.

Does that explain it better?

Edit: And it had a Hot Tub Level!
