To id (or at least the ancients among you)

I am not here to flame, but allow me this one small piece of say.

I originally played wolf3d, doom 1, 2, 3, quake 1, 2, 3, 4, heretic, hexen, hell even commander keen series.

After all that, I have had the pleasure of resting easy knowing that no matter what, id has the pc's back. That id would produce stuff that would keep me coming back.

By no means is this a slight, nor do i care about mucking with .cfgs (been doing it for 20 years it seems), but honestly mentlegen....

I am a bit disappointed.

This by no means is a slight against the id 5 engine, it looks great when it runs..... I just wanted to express that most gaming companies that have come along the way since the dawn, have gotten into this habit of pushing out garbage with the mentality of "[censored] it we'll patch it later".

Not that any of these previous games were without issues upon release either, but I am utterly dismayed by the level of problems ... or more clearly a seemingly lack of testing for PC (and yes nvidia and ati didnt include the new GL stuff)... and yet console seems without issue (aside from the whole xbox hd burn out thing)....

So allow me to convey, as a long, long, long time fan, sadness. Not to say I have lost faith, but I really have to question the business direction. Yes the engine will be amazing when the kinks are worked out, but this is not about gameplay, or any of that.

But is your intent to make an amazing game, from start to finish, including mechanics and something new and original. Or is your intent to push out a half baked idea with an amazing new lighting engine to license to other companies and make money.

And honestly, I don't think I can tell. With all the game development companies out there, end user experience is really coming to the forefront, and after spending all weekend trying to get my new $60 20gig disaster to work, I feel like I have gone through the stages of grieving for an idealized id that doesn't seem to be there or care all that much about those that made them great, about those that played until their eyes bleed, and those that lured their friends to just do one more dm to drop some rockets into their face.

Perhaps its a fluke, but it's the first time in 20 years where the love has been lost. Where I can't tell if you really give a [censored] about PC gaming anymore, and whether or not future games will be of the quality and experience I've set my own personal standard for you to reach.
If this game has been developed for 6 years..... for console, I would believe it.
If this game has been developed for 6 years for pc.... I want to throw all those floppy disks, CD's and DVDs away out of spite.

Don't get me wrong, the game is ok. But ok is not what I was expecting.

Maybe I'm the battered wife in this relationship, returning home bruised and broken, only to find that you're drunk and angry.
Of all things, the most telling thing to me that id is perhaps now a console developer.... mouse acceleration by default? needing to turn on vsync? are you joking id?

I miss you baby, I know we've had some hard spots. But come home.
