As a long time member of these forums I have found ranting at developers and publishers to be nonproductive and often counter productive. That is why I am going to simply state my case and list my reasons. No hyperbole, name-calling or umbrage.
As a rule I do not play computer games that make it difficult or impossible for me to customize my gaming experience. That is why I play the fallout series and Oblivion to the near exclusion of other games. I do not expect game makers to provide me with a customized game, but I do expect them to provide the tools to allow me to play my way.
For this reason, I quickly lose interest in games that do not provide a console type interface, modifiable configuration files or "cheat" codes.
This is all to preface my consternation that id/Bethesda would go to the extraordinary effort to hobble this facility that was included in the game at release. It is even more difficult to understand why they would take the extra time when they had so many serious issues to deal with.
To compound the developer's assault on the sensibilities of PC players, John Carmack summed up his company's (id) attitude towards us thus, "We do not see the PC as the leading platform for games... "
Particularly in these hard economic times, my game dollar is more dear than ever. What few I have will be spent with companies that respect me and value me as a customer. That is why I will be putting RAGE on the shelf, as well as urging my family, friends and readers to spend their game dollars wisely.
