Dead City - Open world?

An expansive experience

Beyond the first-person action and vehicle combat, RAGE offers a world open to explore, with unique characters, side quests, and a compelling storyline.

According to the previews, so why was every path decided and everywhere blocked?

Agreed.

Was expecting something along the lines of fallout.

They should have just said "corridor shooter"

The only "exploring" that I did in this game was trying to find those game cards along the corridors.

It is called advertising. They did it to sell copies and it worked. Now sure, some have returned the game based on this, but so far no one is filing false advertising charges so it worked.
This kind of game is known as a soapbox (not sure why), but the only control you get is what mission to work on next (or to skip). Heck, I did not even see the so-called RPG elements.

It is a fairly good corridor shooter in the second half when the AI kicks in.

In the short run it worked....but it left a sour taste in quite a few consumer mouths that will translate to crummy DLC sales.

If you sell me a krappy meal at a restaurant don't expect me to buy desert.

They have said it for the last 5 years that it's not a SOAPBOX, I just don't get what people were expecting, they never said this was going to be fallout, they said it a gazillion times that it's a FPS with some RPG elements that it was more like an Open but directed experience. Sure there could be some misrepresentation there but the Previews done by Writers in the game industry all said how the game was going to be. If you chose to ignore those and still purchased and are pissed about it, you have to put some of the blame on yourself and your expectations.

Now do I not like how things are blocked off with invisible walls...sure I hate it, it takes away from the immersion. I also of course think they could have done better with a more fleshed out RPGesue elements to keep the world more alive and add more motivation to the player but in no way DO I think they DUPED anyone that's a bit going overboard.

The game is a perfect mix. I've been following Rage for a couple years now and not once did I expect fallout or borderlands. It's a FPS, they just added a little RPG to make it fun. It was supposed to a good thing. It ended up being a mistake because now every one wants more rpg and less fps. When this game gets to a mission and we start to see the tight corridor levels I think that's when it shines. ID software is not about open world games. Maybe people get confuses because Bethesda has it's name on it.

I would not want that long of a game right now anyway. I think most of my time is gonna be spent playing Skyrim. Although Rage is a fantastic game Skyrim is the real beast.

I agree that it has a good balance but that doesn't mean they couldn't have done better with the RPG elements. I know they can do Shoot-em up levels and of course I want more of those too but they have that NAILED, I like to mention more RPG elements and Story shortcomings because that is where they need to get BETTER.
