Forza Motorsport 4

Anyone got it? I picked it up yesterday. I'm not the biggest racing game fan in the world (the last one I played was Forza 2), but I do enjoy simulation games, and Forza is the cream of the crop on the 360.

So far, it's great. It looks fantastic. I'm particularly impressed with the track side scenery, an often neglected part of racing games. It makes those especially long races a lot more enjoyable when you're driving past beautiful mountain vistas.

The Autovista mode is pretty cool. Basically, you can view and examine a few different high-end cars from every angle. They're rendered in extremely high quality and you can open doors, bonnets, sit inside, etc. You can also listen to Jeremy Clarkson give his opinion on each model.

There seems to be A LOT to do in career mode. Not sure if I'll ever finish it. Some of the additions seem a bit pointless (like driving around the Top Gear test track knocking down bowling pins), but some are great, like the traffic races (where you race on a track with loads of slower cars and have to pass out as many as you can).

Overall, it's a solid racing game. I can't compare it to Gran Turismo 5 as I haven't played it, but I haven't played anything better on the 360.

Yeah I have it, I'm a big car fan so of course I have it! I do think the autovista mode is cool and actually like the other modes as well. The multi-player soccer mode is pretty awesome. I played Forza 3, and yeah this one is a bit better. I love tuning/upgrading my cars and trying to beat my friends' times and stuff. I like the way the season mode is this time too, it makes it less grindy. Once you get up to the higher tiers though, the racing can start to get boring..when you gotta do 10+ laps on each track. I am not that far yet in this game so I don't know if that's how it goes, but I'm assuming it does.

I like how they did the car level rewards this time too, making upgrades free for all the cars if you use just one from the manufacturer once you hit car lv 5 or so. Makes it a lot easier to just buy a car and upgrade it how I want, rather than having to purchase the minimum here and there cause I can't afford everything. This way I can pick and choose and use whatever car I want for a number of classes.

Currently I don't have a favorite, there's cars I want but haven't gotten yet. Like the Lexus LFA and Koenigsigg Agera and Lamborghini Sesta Elemento. But I'm using a Nissan 240sx at the moment, and a Mustang Boss 429 when I race..though I switch often, those cars have gotten the most attention. I also like my 54 Corvette.

What have we here? Racing fans in the TES forums? I thought I was the only one :celebration:

anyway I will be getting Forza 4 for Christmas and will be playing it a lot over that period as well. I tried the demo and felt it was pretty darn good and the visuals looked amazing but the menus were dissapointing, very GT esque in my opinion and they have never been the most user friendly. The autovista mode I hear is exclusively car porm, where you can check out all the car in incredible detail. I'm probably spend more time on that than the actual racing.

I don't have and refuse to buy a kinect so I don't know when I'll be able to try out that aspect of the game but I've heard it isn't very good anyway.

Though I'm not the biggest muscle car fan (I only ever really liked the camaro and mustang fastback) I like the bigger inclusion of them here.

You only get a certain number of cars in Autovista, so you won't spend too much time in there. But they'll be adding more in DLC's I'm sure.

Agreed. The menus are awkward and don't look great. It took a few minutes to get the hang of actually navigating around career mode.

Got the game a couple of days ago, and loving it so far. Almost upto level 30 in career mode.

Seems like an overall improvement on Forza 3, but there are a couple of flaws that bother me:

  • The absence of weather / night-time - PGR4... a game released 4 years ago on the 360 had this, and seemed so much more alive and visually stunning than Forza 4 does.

  • The inability to turn car sound fx down - I have music on highest, but still can barely hear it over the car sounds. Seems very odd that they let the player turn the music up/down, as well as the master volume, but not the sound fx. Some people like hearing the loud car noises, which is fair enough... but personally, i'd rather listen to the soundtrack.

It's tough deciding which I prefer out of Forza 4 or PGR4. Forza has the greater car selection, customization, and more realistic gameplay... but seems to lack a lot of the beauty and the fun of PGR4. Overall, i'd probably stick with PGR4 as the best racing game this generation.
