Post » Mon Oct 17, 2011 6:27 am

in both fallout 3 , and new vegas it keeps saying i have a error in a file
for fallout 3 its C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\a306_appcompat.txt
for fallout new vegas its C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\50fb_appcompat.txt
yet i searched in all my files and i dont even have 50fb_appcompat but i do have a306_appcompat
but when i open a306_appcompat it says it doesnt exist
does anyone know how i fix these because i was really looking forward to play these i even got game of the year edition for fallout 3

Tried emptying your temp folder? Nothing in there is in need of being kept for long.

Also, when did you last reboot. Windows randomly likes to lock up files and think you don't have permission to access them when it's been a long time since your last reboot.

1. Reboot your computer

2. http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER

CCleaner may miss stuff, so manually delete everything in C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp (Some things you may not be able to delete, because they will be temporary files currently in use)

ok well now it says
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\9dd1_appcompat.txt for fallout 3
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\5eca_appcompat.txt for new vegas
so i might have done something wrong or right because the file number changed

Ah, apparently they are files that contain information about the real error, are you saying you can't get them to open?

Have you tried reinstalling the games?

Error log files should always be written to the program's application directory, not to the temp directory... /slight rant

no, you need to open up the file and see what it says inside. go to C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\ and look for the appcompat files and open one up. Inside should hopefully be more information on the error.

Don't send the error report otherwise the file will be deleted.

Delete all of them and try and launch the games again. It'll create new ones and just post the new ones here. Even if you don't understand it, someone on here might. Put them in spoiler tags if you are worried about length

^ Those files are all log files because they "log" the errors (hence the name)
