Handheld Gaming

Post » Wed Oct 19, 2011 2:02 pm

I have a bit of traveling ahead of me, and I need something to keep me entertained. I've decided to go with a handheld gaming device.

Thing is, I haven't had a handheld since the original Gameboy. I'm completely out of the loop. I could use some advice here.

Which device should I go with? What games should I get?

Thanks! :)

Maybe it's just me, but maybe get the one that has the games you want to play?

I'd go with a DS Lite. It's not too expensive, and you can play both DS and GBA games.

Let's see:
PSP: Has a good varity of games and it's a MP3 player and it can videos. some good games are: The 3rd Birthday, Dissidia (I might have spelled this wrong) 12, FF VII: Crisis Core and the Ys 1 &2, Oath in Felghana and Ys Seven.

3DS: Can play the old DS games and the 3DS games are in 3D, you can download games from Nintendo and there's a few great game for it like LoZ:OoT 3D, Star Fox 64 3D, Street Fighter IV and Dead or Alive: Dimmisions (this game is a must have for DoA fans) .

Did you read my post? I'm completely out of the loop in regards to handheld gaming. I haven't done any handheld gaming in about twenty years. I don't even know what games are available.

Thanks to the others who responded! :)

Look at the games and see which ones fit the bill of the type of games you like playing? It's no different than buying any other console: the best one is the one that has the games that pique your interests the most. You don't have to know anything about consoles to know that if Gears of War is a game you want to play, you best get a 360, or that if you want to play Zelda games, you need to get the Wii. The same rule applies to handhelds.

I agree with the DS Lite statement. It has by far the longest battery life of all DS iterations, AND has GBA support. Hell some of my favorite games are GBA games I use the DS Lite to play.

As for games...well if you ever liked Pokemon, you should try HeartGold or SoulSilver on the DS. I'd stay away from Black/White though. Rune Factory 3 has all of your monster slaying woman wooing vegetable planting needs. Any of the Professor Layton games are chock full of puzzles if you like those. There are two good Zelda games, but I like Phantom Hourglass better than the newer Spirit Tracks.

Mario Kart DS is, in my oppinion, the best Mario Kart since Nintendo 64. Monster Tale is adorable and not well known but has fun Metroidvania type gameplay and really good music.

Also if you like more traditional, or old school, RPGs I can't possibly recommend Summon Night Swordcraft Story for the GBA more. It is my all time favoritest handheld game of all of them and I've played it at least three times now.
