Falling rocks during escape

Hi everyone,

I would really like to see the end of this game. However, I am always crushed by those falling rocks while running back to the portal. I've tried everything I could possibly find about this bug: Lowered the screen resolution to the absolute minimum and switched off the anti-aliasing, looked to the ground all the time to reduce rendering issues, jumped as hell - but Jackie still wouldn't run any faster. As a final resort, I used the tweak tool, but I cannot seem to change the player settings. Every time I try to save the changes, I get an error message saying "Patch failed!!! Most likely file [...] is currently in use", but of course, nothing's in use. I started the game to see whether it works despite the error (since directly afterwards, it says "File(s) patched", and it worked for the blue lights glitch), but there's no change - he still crawls his way through the tunnels and dies when the portal's not even in sight. (Yes, I've made sure I'm not in crouch/sneak mode.) I even tried to set an unrealistically high value for walking speed so that I'd definitely notice the change, but still - there's no way to get around this. Any suggestions?

I've run into just about every annoying bug this game has, plus another one about which I haven't read anywhere, and still kept playing because I loved Lovecraft's work a few years back and was fascinated by this envisioning of his ideas. But this is just plain frustrating.

Greetings from Germany,
D.

Not sure why the patch can't change your executable but it is better to patch the scripts anyway so that it works across all versions.

There are 7 checkpoints in the escape to the portal with different timings as follows:
1->22 seconds
2->25 seconds
3->20 seconds
4->20 seconds
5->20 seconds
6->20 seconds
7->35 seconds

I really want to change the game as little as possible in any patch so is it just the final checkpoint that needs tweaking and by how little would it need to be tweaked to make it possible?
Can you try and time after how many seconds you die?

I can then modify the script and update the patch.

Thanks a lot for your answer! Guess what: I just put a clock onto my desk in order to time the whole thing just as you told me, and suddenly I could just walk right through there without anything happening. Now this is really weird. Whatever the reason may be, I could now finally see the final sequence. :) The funny thing is, it took more than a minute to get to the point where I had always died before - namely right after entering the small cave that leads to the portal at the opposite end of the open cavern. Up to now, I could just slip into the cave and then died instantly with the portal not even in sight. Anyway, I'm glad it finally worked out.
