"Brink Lacks Depth"

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 2:36 pm

So I've seen it over and over again. People constantly say that Brink lacks depth... but I don't get it. What are they comparing it to? MW2? Ya cause that game was deep lol
The complaint that annoys me the most is when people say "All the classes have the same weapon choic" which is just stupid. In BF2 you were stuck with the same weapon (unless you leveled up) for your class. Why do people want games to be so linear? Brink is about freedom and choice why would they limit your options with each class? I think its great that you can be a shotgun engineer or an assault rifle engineer... etc
Then people complain there's not enough maps, ok well crap in MW1 people played the same maps from release until today (sure there's more maps overall but who really plays even half of those regularly?)
With levling up different class characters it can be quite fun and you get new perspectives on how to play the game. Then there's all the weapon customizations and stuff.

As far as depth goes I think Brink is PLEANTY deep where its deep is in TEAMWORK, which is why people don't get it. I think for the majority of people out there this game just went right over their heads.
Furthermore, I just don't understand all the complaints but not applauding the successes - noob toobs aren't OP (ok EZ nade launcher is a TAD op but it's nothng like MW2), camping is less viable than any other shooter ever, fun fluid gameplay, soild weapon selection, per

My only complaint is that brink didn't include a TDM or Capture the flag. I know the game wasn't balanced around those modes but every FPS should have them.
Oh my other complaint is that you can't name your characters LOL

In fact Brink is, after Tribes 2 perhaps, the most complex team-fps I ever played since the beginning of this genre! :foodndrink:
What should be more complex? UT? Quake? BF? MoH? CoD????...

UT = Unreal Tournament

Let's compare the simple action of engaging an enemy in Brink to say...Black Ops.

Black Ops:
Spot enemy
Shoot at enemy
Kill enemy
Repeat

Brink:
Spot enemy
Weigh in pros and cons of engaging at range or get in closer for better shot
Consider if enemy is alone or near team mates
Decide if engaging multiple targets is wise
Shoot at enemy
Enemy shoots back at you
Either you or enemy die depending on a number of variables. (Buffs, range, weapons, health, body type etc)

There in lies the telling fact of how much "deeper" the overall IN GAME aspects are in Brink are to other games. In other games, you point, shot and kill. In Brink, you actually have to think about if attacking an enemy at that point and time is wise. I'll take a game where me beating the next guy in a gun fight is dependent on me being better with the actual gun rather then having better "perks" anyday.

People often don't fully understand the game, I wish people would at least play it for about 10 or more hours before making huge statements.

Wow. This isn't biased at all.
I mean, there's no possible way that someone can play Call of Duty with the same level of competence but walk away from a far more intense shoot out.
-sighs- You pretty much can choose how or if you want to engage a enemy in any FPS, it just depends on how you play. You can't tell me that people don't immediately shoot at enemies in Brink just because they're playing a FPS and could care less about tactics?

Very biased. Besides this game was a huge let down anyway.

Sadly it was.
This game's promise was squandered. Which is the shame of it, really.
