Diversity in Weaponry

The limitations in a game without fairy magic and pony spells (I'm sorry to the MyLittlePony lovers out there  ) is diversity, even in a game like fallout

Weapons in fallout sometimes revolve around existing weaponry : 9mm, 10mm, 44 mag, .223 rounds, .308 rounds, .50 cal. ect

They also involve semi-'realistic' models of weaponry : Semi-automatic plasma casters, heavy incinerators, grenade machine guns (an offering by Jesus himself), A fully automatic Red-Glare rocket launcher ect.

However, if you make a comparison with online games with pixie dust or whatever, the ability to effect fire/ice/wind/earth and harness that to be a 'weapon' is more diverse than any games with guns can be.

My submitted proposal is to follow the stance of 'special' weaponry.

To illustrate:

9mm gun A has normal attributes and is of a common variety.
9mm gun B has above-average attributes (+2 to guns skill/ +3% critical rate)

This would allow for numerous combinations, fostering diversity without resorting to lame-ass magic.

What say you?
